Just to let you folks know, my LNP request went in 1/28/05, still waiting. I entered a ticket with the FCC folks in mid-March. They did contact me by phone and got additional information in late-March. Still waiting. I have not had any issue with Vonage crediting my account. I just call a couple of days before my billing cycle and they issue a credit. I'll keep you updated as to my progress or lack there of. My current phone is with Momemtum Telecom but BellSouth owns.

Vonage isn't FCC regulated, so contacting them isn't going to make a difference. Anyway complaining to outside agencies doesn't make any transfer go faster.

My request also went in on January 28 and I am still waiting. While I have been receiving a credit of $16.94 from Vonage each month, it does not adequately compensate me for the $42.00 I am still paying on my phone bill.

Shoot Gents,

Your complaining because it's three months to port your whole telephone number... I have been waiting longer and all I want is any number that uses my local area code! I fell for the, "Were getting additional area codes every day and we'll have yours soon", line. Yeah, right on.

I have to say that nothing has held so much promise and missed by so much. I have called it quits on the Vonage dream. All the slick ads in the world could not save this dog. I think the final nail was seeing the forum post that the FCC and various state PUCs have no oversight into this quagmire. As the saying goes "the pioneer's get the arrows and the settler's get the land". Well I am taking the arrow out of my --- and going home.

As promised update - As expected no movement from the FCC contact, but it was worth a try.

On 4/22, I receive this email -
"I understand that you have an issue that requires immediate attention. I apologize for the delays you have experienced. Your issue has been escalated to the Executive Response Team and I will personally assist you in this matter.

I have reviewed the case at hand and have requested any new updates to be forwarded to my attention. As soon as I have any new information in regards to this issue, I will relay my findings to you.

We value you as a customer and strive to offer a great service and, when needed, fast and helpful customer care. Again, I apologize if you have been dissatisfied in these areas thus far. I am hopeful we will be able to assist you with a resolution that meets your needs.

We are dedicated to customer satisfaction. We look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
Paul McCray
Executive Response Team
Monday-Friday 8:00am-8:00pm"

Well after 3 months, at least I finally show up on their radar screen as having a problem. I also called in to see what they could tell me. By the way, customer service wait times have gone away, I called on a Friday night, @ 9:00 PM, and waited less than 1 minute. The rep went to check "the spreadsheet", I bet that is a doosey of a spreadsheet by now. Well as expected, no new updates but she did open a ticket, as VongaeGirl recommended.

That's all for now, I'll let you know when I hear something back.

Following is the text from the last five e-mails I received from Vonage Customer Care regarding the delay in my local number transfer that was requested on 1/28/2005:

Dear William,

I am contacting you to inform you of your number transfer. I have requested a status from Vonage's carrier that is handling your request. As soon as we obtain a finalized transfer date we will contact you immediately. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Hello William

I am contacting you regarding your Vonage account. At this time your carrier has not replied us, since the last time we requested an update on your Vonage account. Unfortunately our carrier partners has been experiencing some difficulty in processing the orders submitted by Vonage. Vonage cannot set your transfer date because we currently do not own your number. We are currently requesting a transfer date from your local carrier. Your transfer will take place, but we currently do not have the exact date in which this will occur. When we are updated with the exact transfer date from your local carrier, we will contact you immediately. Vonage will credit your account for delays past the 20 business days deadline. We are working steadfastly to port your number.

Sincerely
lnp dept.

I am contacting you in regards to your number transfer. I researched your account and determined that your number transfer was not successfully executed. Vonage researched your order and determined that your request was sent to the carrier however your paper work was not processed. Vonage has already expedited your request with your local carrier and we are now waiting for a transfer date to be issued. When we do receive this information we will contact you immediately via E-mail.

They (Vonage) are very good at saying anything to keep you from cancelling your service over LNP issues.

I have had 3 different tickets opened up and they have always sent me a canned email promising an update and then I never hear back from anyone.

Very lousy way to do business.

Vonage peeps can go on and on about "massive growth" and "you probably don't have your paperwork in" but the bottom line is that Vonage has confirmed on the phone that they have everything that they need from me since Feb 23rd and they still haven't gotten my number ported and it's now over 2 months.

I still fail to see how Comcast Cable can port a phone number in 72 hours without fail if you want to use them for phone service but Vonage takes months in many cases to complete a transfer.

My hunch is that Vonage plays the waiting game for a reason. It costs them $x per number xfer and they would much rather get you to take a new number than to have to pay to have your old number ported.

I'm sure that any Vonage employees or executives who need a number ported have it performed in a few days at most.

FCC might not regulate Vonage, but if 1000's of angry consumers complain to the FCC about this kind of crap that could very quickly change.

I received an e-mail from Vonage today that my transfer is now complete. So, I guess patience and requests for updates does eventually work.

Thanks billcoff for your update. I've decided that I'm going to request a credit on 5/3, for last month, then cancel. Tired of this and hearing about the other quality issues that are going on with them. Hope it all continues to work out for you.
