Vonage has been working great for me at home (I have a High speed cable connection used with a wireless router). I am now on the road and the hotel where I am staying has DSL. I plug in my wireless router (works fine), my laptop makes connection to the Internet (works fine), I plug in the ATA to the router (does not work). The only way that I am able to dial out is to unplug my router and to plug directly to the dsl line.
*I have not made any changes to my router. *The router is a netgear wgr614
I have called Vonage tech support, but they were not familiar with the issue
One thing that seemed to work for a little bit was if I plugged in the ATA directly in the DSL connection and let it get an IP address, then I would plug it back into my router. It would maintain dial tone for a while, but I would not be able to make any calls.
Any clues?
PS I even brought down the bandwidth of the ATA. |

The hotel might have its own router/firewall that will not forward the required ports for Vonage. Not only does the ATA have to communicate with Vonage, but Vonage has to be able to communicate with the ATA. |

I think you need to use a switch or a hub since the hotel already has a routeer instead. |

Thanks guys for your responses!!
Question: Why, then would the ATA work fine when I would plug it directly into the DSL connection? I can understand the port issue if it was something with my router, but I need help in understanding how that would play in effect if I plug in directly? |
