Hey miket, let me know when your transfer goes through.. I am curious how long it takes for ya.. You have a date for your transfer, mine still says N/A even though the transfer has been sent to the carrier..

I am curious if anyone else has done a transfer from the allmighty bell canada..

Thanks

Done! Bye Bye Telus. I received an email from Vonage today stating that my transfer has been completed. The transfer took longer than expected though. I suspect that this had something to do with Telus. I think that it is more than conincidence that my transfer took place on the last day of my Telus billing cycle. This way, Telus doesn't have issue me a credit for canceling mid billing period.

So, from the time that I made my request (March 24th), to today, the request took 17 business days (if you count Easter Monday). My initial request on the 24th (the first day that LNP was available) wasn't received however due to glitch on the Vonage web site. As result, they didn't receive my request until March 29th (I had to resubmit my request). So with this in mind, the LNP transfer took 15 business days. Not bad, but the web says 10 business days. I think that the 10 business days waiting time is intended to start when your request is sent to the carrier. My request was sent to the carrier on April 5th. From that point of view, the request took nine business days to complete.

I too have been waiting for my number transfer from Bell Canada to Vonage in Toronto.

I first applied on March 30, and after a call to the office, my status was updated to LOA received on April 5 (although there was nothing to be received on paper, as we all know...residential customers do not submit the LOA form except via the web.

March 30, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
April 5, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
April 5, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier

I finally emailed on April 14 curious about a status update...my account still showed "Transfer Date: N/A". Here is the reply I received:

In response to your email, transferring your number will take a minimum
of 20 business days upon receipt of complete and correct paperwork.
You may track the progress of your request through your web account.

If you need further assistance, please contact our Customer Care
department.

Sincerely,
Rennard H.Snowden

I questioned the 20 days because the website clearly says 10 business days, only to receive the following:

In response to your email, we do apologize for any confusion with your
request but as stated transferring your number will take a minimum
of 20 business days upon receipt of complete and correct paperwork.
You may track the progress of your request through your web account.

If you need further assistance, please contact our Customer Care
department.

Sincerely,
Vonage Customer Care
Troy Mitchell

So, there you have it...either both Rennard and Troy are pulling the wool over my eyes, or the facts have changed.

I like Vonage and the savings are great. This is the first time I have been displeased with the service provided, but LNP is important to me and I can't wait to cut the cord from Bell.

So, I remain, hopefull in Riverdale.

I am thinking along the same lines as Miket603 that it will probably have to do with the end of billing cycle.. If you just out right call Bell Canada and cancel your service, it won't get disconnected until the end of your billing cycle. I have a feeling that this will be the same.. My billing cycle with Bell Canada is the 6th of every month, so on May 6th, if I still have Bell service then I dunno what the problem is.

What are your billing cycles with bell, at least 10 business days from your LOA being received at Vonage..???

Just a point everyone considering or waiting for LNP: Don't cancel your exsisting service with your wireline provider. If you do, it will foul up the transfer and likely won't be accepted by your wireline carrier. If you cancel your wireline service before applying for LNP, you lose your number, therefore, you can't transfer it. Once the transfer is completed, your wireline service is automatically terminated.

I agree... LNP is very important... But if u go on the USA Vonage forum, u will see that some ppl were waiting 3-4 months to transfer their numbers from their carriers. It's a little scarry. To be honest with u, i don't really care, the only thing is that now we have to pay bell and Vonage, which is almost $80 per month for me. So, if my LNP takes up to three months, then maybe it's better to force cancel BELL, and get a brand new number from Vonage. Oh well... I am very dissapointed... 10 bussiness days is now 20... or maybe 3 months... God helps us all...

True I don't want to wait 3 months for this to happen but rumour has it that if it goes beyond 20 business days that you can call Vonage and get a 1 month rebate on your service..

Thats the rumour in the us forums anyway, let me know how it goes..

Yep, LNP has been a hugh nightmare in the US. I believe that the reason for this is the difference in how LNP is regulated in the US and the volume of requests that Vonage has received for this in the US. Here in Canada, LNP is closely regulated, therefore, the ILECs can't use stall tactics etc. to hold up the process like they are accused of doing in the US. I believe that there is a mandated timeline for this process here as well. I also understand that verification has been a problem in the US. This has recently been resolved with the signing of a third party verfication service. I believe that there is a large backlog to clear down there though.

But not for everyone... Some ppl get the number in less than 1 week.. I believe we should get a month free just because on the website says 10 bussiness days... Not 20, not 3 months, not forever... Maybe we should email to a LNP specialist... I also had another issue: when i sigend up, the temp number assigned wasn't local, it was from outside KW area, even though it had 519 area code. I called customer care and they said i have to add a new virtual number, which I did, however now I have 2 virtual numbers, and for the last one they gave me one month credit.. After that I have to pay $7.99... What a nightmare... I ghave to call them again, stay on hold 1 hour, etc... i think we get more support here, in the forums, not on the phone... this whole process makes me sick...
