so i helped my parents signup for Vonage the beginning of janurary, and sent in their letter of authorization and then sat back and began to wait...

so recently, my mother asks me why is she still paying the Alltel bills. she thought Alltel was not supposed to be billing her.

after checking it out (and feeling like an idiot) i found out that the LNP had never gone through. Vonage had received the LOA and had forwarded it to Alltel, but nothing happened since then.

so i called Vonage last week and explained the situation and the rep said they would 'expidite' this ticket and that i should get a response back about the exact status of my LNP soon. still waiting for that.

not trusting Vonage to be responsible like they should, i tried calling Alltel's LNP department and seeing if they had any info or anything they could tell me. basically they couldn't tell me anything, but said that they did not have an agreement with Vonage for LNPs and thus the transfer could never take place.

i then learned about the mysterious '3rd party' LNP department/company that handles vonage's LNPs, however, when asked if i could contact them to see what was holding them up, i just get the response that 'i don't know who they are, the higher-ups do, but they don't tell us that. just trust me its being taken care of. we will contact you as soon as there is an update, which should be tomorrow or the day after.' i never recieved this contact and when i called back today, the woman i had talked to wasn't in and i had to start all over.

knowing that being angry with reps does absolutely nothing, i restrained myself from saying ****! but now im in this quandry and i don't know what to do...

should i keep nagging Vonage?
should i call alltel and try to figure it out of their end?
should i press Vonage and get them to transfer me to their '3rd party' and pursue it from there?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue. I called Vonage LNP last night and had them open an inquiry. The rep said Paetec was handling my port and checked Paetec's system to see if any progress had been made. The rep could find nothing new on Paetec's system and opened an escalated inquiry ticket. This morning I received an e-mail from Vonage telling me that a tenative date of 4/26/05 had been set. Sure enough I checked Verizon's website and it now shows a request for disconnect. Clearly Paetec only acted after getting a call from Vonage LNP management. I'm just amazed how fast this occured. It's my belief that Vonage may be getting tougher now with their 3rd party contracters. After all it's in Vonage's best interest to have these 3rd party companies get the job done as quickly as possible otherwise it will unlimately cost them money.

Also, make sure you request a credit from Vonage for each month that the LNP was not done.

Sorry to here someone is having the same problem as I am in Lexington. On Feb 3 I sent in the letter of authorization and was charged. The transfer request was sent to the carrier on Feb 4.

On March 8th I got a response from customer care that they could not tell me when it might transfer. Looks kinda like a automated reply.

Then on April 9th I got a email from Vonage Customer Care saying my number transfer would not happen as Vonage dose not currently offer number portability in my area. I check the sign up for new customes and found that they still say they can port my number.

At this point I don't think Vonage Customer Care knows what is happening. My plan is to call them but I suspect it is a losing battle but I am going to try next week.

Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated.

Roger

It took almost 6 months for Altell to do my port. Vonage did give me credit, but it was still way too long.

It has been 2 1/2 months with both Alltel and Vonage pointing their finger at the other. I would guess Alltel is purposely dragging their feet and hope you give up. I wrote the FCC and let them know the issue I was having. I suggest anyone else experiencing problems do the same.

***Update****
Turns out this was Vonage's fault all along. They did not have a Latta 9?) agreement with Alltel in the area I was in! Their website said I could transfer my # but I couldn't.

I am in Pennsylvania and am having trouble transferring my number as well. I submitted a complaint to the BBB today. I'll see if they can do anything before trying the FCC. I've talked to Alltel, PaeTec, and Vonage about this. No one wants to take responsibility, says there is nothing they can do about it, isn't their thing, whatever. The Vonage website says we can transfer, we changed from DSL to cable internet, submitted all requested paperwork, and got an email saying Alltel would not release our number to Vonage because there wasn't an agreement in place with PaeTec (who is the mystery company that transfers numbers for Vonage, btw) and to try contacting the Public Utility Commission. I talked to Alltel first. The Alltel rep. on the phone said it sounded like a legal dept. thing, can't do anything about it. I called the PUC and it isn't their area, phones aren't I guess. They said to contact the FCC. I called PaeTec, who said they don't have anything to do with it, it's between Alltel and Vonage...hmmm...and yet they are the ones doing the transfers?? I called Vonage, they said that usually if you request that the number be released Alltel will release it. Vonage also said they can't do anything about it and actually suggested that I switch to another phone company and then switch to Vonage to get it transferred. We can't, there's a monpoly and Alltel is the only phone company we can sign up with here. Seems absurd to do that anyhow. Anyhow, after all of this I've just submitted a complaint to the BBB requesting that one or all three of the companies take responsibility and that our number be released. I hope it works! Confused
