Nope, asked specifically that they not cancel. We fibbed and indicated that our new home construction wasn't complete yet but we wanted to transfer our existing number when it was. They asked for an address and I advised we didn't have one assigned yet but it was in the same neighborhood.. Sprint Rep indicated it would be no problem to transfer. Crossing fingers that it's on hold sufficient enough for the transfer process to complete successfully.

Here is an interesting (unscientific) statistic that my friend told me about today.

He/she has a list of about 150 people who had problem getting their LOA forms received by Vonage so they sent them directly to him/her to be manually submitted. So this person, last Sat night when it was very quiet decided to go through all the papers and see what happened with these ports since they were sent up.

All 150 LOA/Bill were posted as received within 48 hrs (marked submitted to carrier) and 131 had successful ports within 3-4 weeks of submission, 5 within 4-6 weeks, 7 within 6-8 weeks and the rest (7) are still pending the oldest being 2 1/2 months.

Going on my 4th week... My SBC account is in limbo (on hold) as described (claimed I wasn't in my new house yet)... I've got a bad feeling something is going to go screwy, especially the longer it goes....

I'm almost to the 10 week mark with my LNP from BellSouth (I'm in North Carolina). I've called Vonage customer service multiple times and spoken with a supervisor twice. I've had multiple tickets created, and my status is still:

March 11, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 12, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 12, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier

I've had one month of service credited, and the supervisor told me at the time that they would not credit any additional months of service, even if my LNP drags on indefinitely. Has anyone successfully gotten more than a single month's credit? Obviously what would make me most happy is to have my service & LNP work, but failing that I'll wait on it a little longer if I'm not paying for two services at once. If I have to start paying for two services simultaneously then I'll demand a full refund and cancel my Vonage service.

Anyone switch to another Voip provider? Recommendations?

I understand the anxiousness of wanting it done, but Vonage will issue a credit (in theory). Be glad you aren't under the gun and your number won't dissapear in 2 weeks or less. I wouldn't mind waiting 6 months if I was getting a credit and my old number would still be around to transfer!

No offense, but I find that hard to believe.

Just starting to read this thread. My LNP happened in 18 days (weekends included).

Now if we can find 9,999 other "good" stories........

You reminded me of one important rule:
DON'T wait to call to until you're moving in a month, and expect the number transfer to happen immediately!

We started automating this month. It seems to being going a little faster, but don't chances. Glitches happen. It's new to us too.

BTW Don't try to beat the system--DSL on the number your transfering--if it slips thru, you lose phone service and DLS, line needs to active or it will be rejected, etc.

Well, waiting since April 16th I figured I'd call today to see if I could get a status and inquire about some possible credit for being well over 30 days waiting for the transfer to occur. I was advised that our number wasn't held by our carrier any longer. I wonder if they would have checked on this if I hadn't called. Vonage should have some system in place to check on this routinely or at minimum every day after 30 days from transfer request. Not just when a customer calls to inquire.

So I call Sprint, Sprint says that our number isn't active even though it's "reserved" for us. Apparently even though Sprint's rep advised that our number was waiting for us it does not show up as ours during this period. Anyway, Sprint is coming out tomorrow to connect a land line at our new home now so we have to pay them a fee for connection, pay for a month of service while we begin the process all over again.....

Moral of the story, if you are planning to move and looking for the first time into Voip or Vonage and plan to transfer your number start the process months ahead of time. Don't rely on the claim of 30 days, 20 business days or anything close thereto.
