The chances of the transfer completing in 17 days are probably 60-40 (60 for not). In order for the transfer to work you must have an active account. If you cancel the account when you move you will lose your number (and the transfer). See if SBC offers a "holding account" or forwarding account where they disconnect the line but keep the account & number alive. Worse case you can keep your Vonage number they gave you. When you move you can still use the Vonage service with the temporary (virtual) number they gave you. Just don't change the address on the old account (let to USPS forward the phone bill to you) until the transfer completes. Also make sure your paperwork is accepted and sent to the carrier. If it isn't the process won't even start.

Don't waste your time trying to port a cellphone #. ESPECIALLY T-MOBILE.

This is exactly what I am trying to do, mostly due to the Vonage web page stating they could port my number. The entire prefix I am in is still "owned" but Voicestream according to the Vonage reps I have talked with. Thus far, the reps I have talked to inform me that XO Communications does the transfers for Vonage, and does not have an agreement with T-Mobile. I'm going to try contacting my PUC to see what happens.

When I have called T-Mobile, I have reached their LNB department multiple times. Thus far they have been very friendly in confirming no requests have come in, and provide me with extra information to help the transfer like their ID and such. This is probably because I have stated my intent to keep T-Mobile service after the transfer, and have been a customer since 1999. I find that date on my account makes the reps there much more responsive any time I call.

My whole reason to get Vonage was to have a phone at home I could use in the house anywhere without signal issues, and also still have my mobility. Thus I intend to set up the call forwarding on Vonage if I don't answer to go to my cell phone. Thing is, I don't want to give up the phone number I have had for years.

Have you got the 'we need your soc sec number" then the "we need your pin number" yet? Cell porting isn't easy and T-Mo is the pits.

Nope. So far Vonage has been my problem, saying they can't port my number and to contact the PUC. I'm really curious if anyone actually tried, since they started saying that 2 days after I sent in my letter, even though the website and customer service reps say my number should be able to be transferred.

There are a small number of cases in which a number winds up being non-transferable in the end, even though all the preliminary information indicates that it is transferable. And more than likely when this happens, it's with a cellphone number port. As much as it blows, it does happen sometimes.

Not the reply I wanted:

Do you offer a "holding account" or forwarding account where you disconnect the line but keep the account & number alive until we move to our new home? There will be a small gap inbetween houses.

if you disconnect your service & then reconnect at the new location within 3 months you can keep the same phone number, will it be more that 3 months in between the move ? - SBC on line customer service

Does it sound like this would work?

ME- Is there any other way to keep the phone number alive?

SBC - Unfortunately, for telephone service and attached services to work they must be working at a location. We can delay a transfer of service, meaning the service does not work at an address, for a maximum of 30 days.

Any thoughts?Question Question Question
