Hello,
I was not able to find any posts related to my problem.
I am using a Mototrola VT1000v and one computer. I have windows XP and have Norton firewall. I am trying to forward ports to be able to use programs like emule and MSNmessanger(voice). I forward the ports using the Advanced settings and save changes. Everything works great for a couple of hours but then i cannot use internet explorer. everything else seems to be working fine (VOIP,emule). once i reboot the router on the router page everything goes back to normal(IE works again) for a couple of hours. If i disable the port forwarding I do not have this problem.
Any help would be greatly apreciated. If you need more information please just ask

P.S. I spoke with someone at vonage on the phone and they told me to just enable a DMZ if i do that will my norton firewall protect my computer from attacks?

th vt1000 does not handle port forwarding correctly, and dmz also did not work right. Disabling Nat and dhcp kills the internet if Im connected behid the adapter.

DMZ, or demilitarized zone will allow everything to the ip address you put in. As long as Nortons is working right, you should be fine. Or you can put a Router between your modem and vt1000 and connect pc to router. Make sure router supports QoS, or quality of service.

I had to put vt1000 behind router in network because it was blocking ports for Teamspeak and Ventrilo, no portforwarding was working, and dmz would not work either.

Thanks James
Do u know of any adapter can handle the forwarding and allow for VOIP? without having to use two routers?
Also I tried to set up the DMZ with the motorola but it did not work i used the IP adress I got from Putting "ipconfig/all" in the command promt. (192.168.102.100)
Thanks Dan

the vt1000 really shouldn't be considered a router, its just an analog phone adapter with a dhcp server.

I hear people say the linksys is good, I personally own an rp614 netgear, the netgear doesn't support QoS

good luck
