Okay. I've removed the rj11 jacks at the demarc so I'm disconnected from the phone company completely.
When I run an rj11 from the Voip modem to the wall (to power my house) I get a dial tone for a few seconds and then all the phones in my house act as if theres a phone that's off the hook.
I cant find any phone off hook, so I'm wondering if I simply need to complete the circuit by putting a loopback in the demarc?
Can someone help who has had the same problem? Everything I read says I should have no problem.
Thanks |

When you have the issue happens look at your line 1 status on the RT31P2 and post what it says.
If I have an offhook phone in the house it says Line 1 Invalid.
If it keeps happening unplug all your phones and then plug them in 1 at a time until you find the culprit.
You do not need a loopback at the NIU |

The part that is perplexing is that all the phones worked just fine prior to Vonage. I've disconnected all phones in the house to make sure that there's not one off hook. As soon as I plug one in I hear the beep beep beep signaling an off hook device.
That's why I wondered if I needed to close the circuit by putting something like a loopback in the rj11 jack outside in the NID |

I am having the same problem except mine worked for 3 days then stopped. When I plug into the wall I get a LIne1 Invalid status. I have disconnected all the phones and tried plugging them in one at a time. I removed all the faceplates from the walljacks and checked the wiring and it looks fine. I bought a tester at Radio Shack and it gives me nothing. (Green is supposed to be good, red swapped lines, nothing means off hook). I plugged the tester into the router phone port and it gives me a red light. Isn't it supposed to give a green light?
Thanks.

I'm sorry, I dont remember where I saw it, but I read in some forum that sometimes the phone company wiring "completes the circuit".
This may not be the standard or best way to wire, of course. I think my house may be wired this way. I hesitate to test whether this is true by hooking up the telco to the NID, because I don't want to chance frying my modem.
If this theory is true, would creating a loopback in my NID rj11 ports fix the problem? what would be the pinout? the 2 middle pins wired together and the next two towards the outside wired together?
Am I that far off? |
