With the assistance of Vonage tech support, I have successfully configured my fax machine. Originally I could receive but not send faxes. After about 60 minutes on the phone with the rep I think it's fixed.
Here's my setup:
Cox cable with Motorola modem
Linksys RT31P2 router ("voice router") configured for two voice lines
Linksys RT31P2 router ("fax router")configured for a fax line on phone 2; HP OfficeJet 6110 fax machine connected via two-conductor cord to fax router phone 2
Apple Airport base station and iMac computer on spare ethernet ports on voice router
The rep and I went through a couple of different trials, including moving the fax router in front of the voice router (nothing worked then), power cycling the routers, computer, and cable modem multiple times, and increasing the packet size to 30 on the fax router. This last item, along with a firmware update on the fax router, seemed to do the trick.
I also have error correction set to "off" on the fax machine. this model does not allow one to specify a baud rate.
I was able to fax to a normal fax machine as well as a computer fax server (sorry, don't know what kind of server).
I'm going to give this a couple of weeks before I turn off my POTS fax line, but this is very promising.[/list] |

As I mentioned... two-conductor phone cord from router to 6110. Vonage tech support changed the packet size (I think to 30). That solved it. Before you call Vonage, hook up a telephone to the fax line and ensure that it can both place and receive calls. Also, if you can, call Vonage from a non-Vonage line... this proces required several router power cycles (as well as cable modem and computer power cycles).
Good luck. |

Look at the plug on either end of the phone cord. If the bottom of the plug has two copper lines, it's two-conductor. If there are four, it's four-conductor. |
