PostPosted: Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:39 am    Post subject: Vonage and Starband Connection? Reply with quote Back to top

I am Starband Dealer, who has a customer wanting to connect a Vonage router/phone to his 360 satellite connection. Can someone please help me with the networking setup for this. The 360 modem CAN NOT be connected directly to a router. I have networked several 360's before, but I am unsure about the Vonage router, and how to set it up.

If anyone has advice on how to set this up Please let me know.

TIA

Voip due to latency can inherently not work with sattelite.

Well, I agree that the latency issue make Voip on satellite less than perfect, But it does infact work.

I got the router working, and tried several calls. they were quite good in quality. Far better than I had expected.

So I guess if you haven't tried it you just don't know.

well, now i tried starband 360 + Vonage and it doesn't works.
and i know why. sb 360 has 50Kb upload and Vonage needs at least 90kb download + upload to work. i can hear people but they can't hear me.due to the speed.

what to do? upgrade to sb 481. i don't see any other way.

no so Vonage needs 30kb min. but some 360 dont avg it !!

do a www.broadbandreports.com/test
and see if your 360 is one of the slow ones , here we get around 25 , looks to like some clusters are faster , as some people report it works fine on a 360!!
