Post subject: Digital Phone Adapter - what is it?
For the UK, what is the Digital Phone Adapter (DPA) that
Vonage
supply?
The online help indicates it may be the Linksys RT31P2 Phone Adapter, which the Linksys website shows is
http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=652
actually a (wired) broadband router.
So, if I connect my current wireless router (Buffalo Airstation G54) to the DPA in order to continue using my laptop wireless ....
(and the DPA connects to the NTL broadband cable modem). I guess the wired PC's (two) could be connected into either router.
Do I need to do anything in the DPA to make sure the wireless connection to the internet is still OK? Any other consideration for linking the two routers?
Or have I got it completely wrong!

That would indeed be the best way to connect the Digital Phone Adapter to the Internet. You will need to disable the in-built DHCP server on one of your routers (either one will do). And you would connect your Airstation to the DPA using a regular LAN port (
not
the dedicated 'Internet' port on the Buffalo device)
Of course the other option would be to simply plug the DPA into one of your vacant switch ports on the Airstation. The issue with that scenario is that you'd not be able to benefit from QoS [prioritising the voice over other data traffic], possibly ending up with poor/choppy audio.
So the best plan is as you originally described: Internet ---> Cable modem ---> Linksys DPA ---> Buffalo Wireless Router
Oh and yes - the
Linksys RT31P2
seems to be what
Vonage
are supplying in the UK at present.
