Post subject: Trouble surfing/hosting game/IM while on Vonage phone..
Hi,
I recently installed broadband phone by
Vonage
.
My problem is, I cannot surf the internet or stay logged into MSN IM, if I pick up the phone to use, or upon an incoming call. It also affects my game server and Teamspeak use. If a phone call comes in, it kicks everyone off the game and Teamspeak. I didn't think it was possible it could be like old dial up days, where you could not use your phone and the Internet at the same time!
The phone connects through a RT31P2 Linksys router, that I have plugged in, from the Motorola Surfboard cable modem via ethernet cable to the router, router to pc via ethernet cable, and also USB cable directly from cable modem to PC. Looking in the network connections, I have two Local Area Connections, the Motorola cable modem with TCP/IP settings turned ON, and the other showing is the Ethernet Card, with the TCP/IP settings OFF.
I'd appreciate some help with this, anyone please?
Thanks,
DM

The experts here wil ask you to post your speed results and other info that the speed test gives you. Try one test without other traffic and then do one while on the phone and post those results here.

Get you another router. Preferably a WRT54G and put the
Vonage
Router behind it. Look for my post from today.
I had similiar problems just like you until I did this. The
Vonage
Supplied router can be very quirky.

Not sure how that relates, but the phone is just a regular phone, its not even wireless, but a Southwestern Bell Freedom Phone.
Your second question, right now I have only one IP, the one that is on the cable modem, thats 24.16.16.182. The Ethernet has QOS enabled only. Is this where I need to make changes?
So I am not any closer to the solution as I can see. When I first installed this, I used the CD sent to me by
Vonage
, which then at that time, I could not host a server at all for gaming, I had two IPs (the other came from the Ethernet similar to the one you mentioned above, and still could not surf and use phone together.
Then I found a completely different set of instructions on the
Vonage
FAQs , I followed those EXACTLY, except those did not specify a connection from the cable modem directly to USB port on pc. I know there's got to be a way to fix it , but its not to be found in the FAQs. Whats next??

I have port 7815 enabled specifically for one game. However, not any particular one for Teamspeak nor MSN Messenger.
