Just a hunch, but you mentioned something about the USB connection from the cable modem to the router. Have you tried not using that since you already have ethernet connectivity from the router to the PC?

It just seems redundant, and may actually cause conflicts from my experience.

No its cable modem to PC, via USB. Without that, I cannot host gaming, and still can't surf anyway. So for now I have it connected until I can get some settings advice.

Any resolution to this? I am having the same problem. When I talk on the phone, the internet connection for browsing/emailing goes dead.

In trying to solve another problem, I've turned my network inside out now having the RT31P2 first after the SB5100 modem instead of after the main router. In some random tests against my ISP's web 100 NDT server, I had to set the QoS in the RT31P2 to about 768 Kb/s for my 512 Kb/s upload connection to get the NDT to report about a 100 Kbs degredation in upload speed while talking on the phone at high bandwidth. In other words, now when not talking on the phone I get 512 up (what I'm supposed to get) , when talking on the phone I get 407 up .... so I think it kinda reserved what the upload bandwidth is close to. But to get those numbers, I had to say QoS was 768 when I only have 512 up. When QoS was defaulted 256 or even raised to 512, the NDT either didn't run at all or was slowed significantly. I really can't explain the results I got, but I'm trying this setting for a while. I also need to experiment with what the other party thinks of the quality of the outgoing voice. This is just trial and error on my part totally unsupported by what I think the help documents instruct one to do.

I had to set up port forwarding in the router settings. I had no idea how to do this until a personal friend finally helped me out. Its been working wonderfully. Not an inch of help from Vonage!

The only thing left is for Vonage to have my phone number transferred, from what I'm reading in this forum, it appears a widespread problem. I've been waiting since early February, so much for the twenty days they promised.

And disappointed that the only help I can get is an emailed reply of the Vonage FAQs, please, how about some real customer service!

I think the only thing they do got right is the monthly automatic funds transfer out of my account, that is their first priority after all.

Do you still have the ethernet and USB connections to the cable modem active at the same time? I don't know the consequences of that. It is usually one OR the other, not both.

Its really quirky and to be honest I dont think anyone has a "right" answer to your question.

There is alot of mystery of how Vonage handles QOS on the RT31P2
