Have had Vonage for 2 months. It worked OK at first, but over the last 2 weeks, it has become unbearable. I can hear other people clearly, but they have problems hearing me. WAF (wife acceptance factor) is at it's lowest, talking about going back to old phone company.
In an attempt to increase performance, I've moved the linksys router to connect directly to the cable modem (and run the wifi gateway off of the Vonage router). Here is my Voip Speed Test results:
| Code: | Download 2,620,696 bps Upload 354,968 bps QOS 93% RTT 57 ms MaxPause 120 ms |
I'm using a LINKSYS RT31P2, Firmware Version: 1.28.00. The QOS is enabled and set to 512KB/s upstream (which I think is a bit high considering my Upload speed is 354k). Online with vonage.com, I have the "Bandwidth Saver" set to the highest setting.
What should I set the QOS to? Does "Ingress Rate Limit" do anything? Should I have "Bandwidth Saver" higher or lower? What can I do to make Vonage work better?

there's a problem somewhere with your upload. not with speed, but perhaps a little lossy. if you check your results to boston at testyourvoip.com I imagine "from you to boston" will look worse than "from boston to you" try throwing the qos at 256 or completely off. some people put it at 80-90% of their real world upload bandwidth. it's measured in kb not kB so just keep that in mind (but yes it's set for higher than your allotted bandwidth) |

From this post it would seem that everything should be working great. Are you still having the issues?
Have you had Vonage increase your output power level yet? |

Ok I've set it to 256.
Results from that site: MOS me to Boston: 3.4 / 5.0 MOS Boston to me: 4.2 / 5.0 |

It's not a problem of volume level. When it's working, people can hear me clearly, when it's not working, it's like a cell phone going under a bridge. My voice cuts in & out. |

It might be a good idea to download pingplotter then and start doing some plotting, especially when you are experiencing issues.
It sounds like that might be an ISP issue and pingplotter can help you figure that out.
What type of Cable Modem do you have? |

I should have specified that the detailed results are what contain the worthwhile information. |

I've downloaded pingplotter & have been running it against www.vonage.com. So far so good. |
