I got my Linksys TA today. I have an SMC wireless router at home and couldn't really figure it out how connect it, so I just jumped into it. I connected my Linksys into my SMC via the cat5 it came with. (output of SMC into input on Linksys). I then connected my phone to my Linksys and fired everything up. I sat down at my Linux machine, opened a browser and typed in 192.168.15.1 and couldn't get to the Linksys. I then logged into my SMC and found that my Linksys had an IP of 192.168.2.7 (SMC uses 192.168.2.x). I tried to log into that IP and got nothing. I then said what the heck and tried my phone.....got dial tone!! I then placed a several calls to test and it sounded better than my land line.
So, here's my question...finally...what is the proper way to set this stuff up given that I don't want to have my Linksys be my main router due to the features on my SMC which the Linksys doesn't have, but considering I can't access my Linksys.
Also, I've had 10 incoming calls....4 of them I couldn't hear anyone on the other side and 6 had echos. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Tom |

Since I have not been on the forums in quite a while, this may have somehting to do with it, or not....
When I got Vonage, I got the Motorola VT, and after screwing around for a while trying out different configurations (The VT also acts as a router with one lan and one wan port). I read a few threads on here, and what I had to do was hook the VT up to my PC directly, set it's IP to one that worked with the rest of my network, along with DNS from my ISP, and it's gateway (which is a 4 port Linksys).
Then connect the VT back up to the Linksys 4 port, and log into the Linksys and forward the ports to the IP of the VT.
Now, you can not log back into the VT unless you connect it back up to my pc and make specific changes to the PC's IP and subnet.
Man, it has been almost a year, are you confused??? I know I am, how the hell did I do that? I will have to write it down once I find that thread again....
*I remembered that that even though the VT has two ethernet ports, I hooked up only one to the Linksys, which was the WAN port...* |

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of doing that last night while in bed. I could use my laptop and do a direct connect and try to tweak it. Thanks for confirming my thoughts!!
