So I received my confirmation email today saying 911 was setup, so I tested it. I asked the dispatcher if she could see my address automatically and she said no. Do I have to wait longer or something? Anyone else have this problem? |

They do not get the infomation about your phone number or address you have to tell them when you call. This is not E-911 |

The dispatcher wasn't supposed to see your address information. The delivery of your address information is only available with "e911" service which is not available through any Voip provider. That is why it important for everyone that may use your phone to understand that when they dial 911 from your phone, that they must be prepared to provide your address to the dispatcher and state the nature of the emergency. Since you tested your 911 service, it is also important to know what agency is answering your call and whether or not you have in fact reached the emergency dispatch for your area. 911 calls through Voip are routed to the Public Safety Access Point ("PSAP") for the city that you registered your 911 service to. The PSAP is not necessarily the 911 centre for your area. It could be the non-emergency number for the police department in your area. It could also be a number that bypasses your local 911 centre that goes straight to the local police dispatch for your area (the agency that 911 connects you to when identify the city that your calling from if you live in metropolitan area like Vancouver). You need to know this before you really need to use 911. |

I understand, I should have read the help on Vonages site first.
A woman answered the phone within 2 rings and said she would transfer me to the 911 dispatcher right away until I told her I was just testing the service. |

Does anyone out there know what method Vonage uses to confirm the address you submit? When I submitted my CORRECT address info including the CORRECT suffix and properly formatted Postal Code I get the following email back.
| Quote: | WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM IN MAPPING YOUR PHYSICAL ADDRESS: Please check your address and resubmit your request. If you have any questions please contact customer care. error | Now if they use the telephone directory we are listed only as RR2 and not our complete postal address. Any ideas? |

What they need is your physical address, not your postal address. "RR2" is a postal address. Check your electric bill or some other utility bill for the "service address". That is what Vonage will need. |

I had the same problems. Registered for 911. Filed out the form and got an email back saying that my address didn't work on Vonage's '911 Address Matching Test'.
Called Customer Help and they wrote a new service 'ticket'. So hopefully I'll be hooked up in a couple of days. |

So given the issue with the limitations of current Voip 911 service, does anyone know if I can still get 911 service from my lanline even if I discontinue my current home service with my landline provider? |
