SBC has turned down overtures from Vonage to work together on developing 911-style emergency services for the Voip company’s customers. Vonage approached SBC with an offer “to test and deploy a joint Voip E-911” service in a February 18 letter from CEO Jeffrey Citron to SBC CEO Edward Whitacre. “We cannot resolve fundamental issues associated with providing a native E-911 service to Voip users without your assistance,” he said.

Doesn't surprise me!!
SBC is a bureacratic, unionized, and bloated dinosaur that has never had its customers best interests in mind. I saw it first hand when SBC gobbled up Ameritech here in Chicago. It was brutal.
Now SBC has gobbled up AT&T for its corporate customer base. Talk about two dinosaurs on the same dance floor. The most interesting thing for them has to be what Bob did, or what Susan said... at the water cooler.
100 years from now, when most of us are long gone... Future generations will ask... what is this fossil of?? "Hmmmn.. Son... that is a fossil of the great dinosaur RBOC-U-LA. It was the most dominant force to roam the Earth...." "Gee dad... what happened to it..?" "It went extinct!"
Big Bang Theory??
No
Voip and the ability to de-centralize the RBOC, and give states, towns, or user groups the ability to setup their "own" phone companies... |
