I couldn't get calls from inside my linksys firewall (direct to voicemail or a "this call cannot be completed message") even when setting port forwarding as recommended, so I now have the Motorola hooked into the WAN and the linksys hooked into the PC port on the ATA.
Now, instead of just losing phone, I lose access to my phone and my computer. (I access computer remotely with gotomypc.com, although I wasn't doing this when both were knocked off).
Normally, if the connection was interrupted due to optonline, my router and computer would put themselves back online.
This does not seem to be the case with the Motorola box. If I get kicked off, it does not re-establish a connection to the net. My productive day of work is then done (as I am not able to access the files on my home computer).
Any ideas on how to fix this so that if the router does disconnect, it will try to reestablish a connection? Any other Optimum Online users losing phone every day or several times a day? |

Even though I was told I have the most recent firmware upgrade by another rep, the current rep did send me a firmware upgrade today.
I don't know if it will solve anything, but apparently what is happening with my line is that if packet loss is experienced, I'm getting kicked off and my ATA is not re-attempting a connection. |

Monk,
My father was having the same problem. He has opt online in New York. Opt online tested his line remotely and said he had a weak signal and that was causing his modem to loose the connection every now and then. The modem would reboot itself but the motorola would not once the initial connection was lost. So we removed a few of the slpitters in his cable line and opt online tested it again. According to them his signal is now sufficient that the modem should not go offline atall. They are still coming to check it out next week but so far today he is still up and running Vonage wise. I also have opt online and like an idiot I traded my Cisco ATA for the Motorola, big mistake. Now I am having the same problem that you and everyone else is. I truly hope they fix this, becasue if it isn't fixed soon I will be forced to switch back to ma bell. |

Werd.
I'm also in NY. However, I never have any problems whatsover with my internet connection. I have some splitters, but they are all leading to TVs that we use! Maybe I should give up TV and phone with Vonage.
