I know telemarkets are not allowed to call cell phone numbers. Do Vonage numbers "appear" like cell phone numbers and thus free from annoying telemarketing calls? |

Well I don’t think giving my number’s out to strange women count as unsolicited…. But other than that every call on my Vonage phone is valid |

That brings up another question. Can telemarketers USE Vonage to make calls? Does Vonage have a business service for this? I've never seen a Vonage "type" number come up on my caller ID but that doesn't mean they don't. |

if telemarketers were to use Voip, chances are they would build their own system like some larger businesses do. |

I suppose so. I was just wondering if Vonage was used by TM'ers. |

I continue to get the same number of telemarketers as I did in the past. Because I signed up on the national do not call list, it's not a lot. I haven't noticed a difference in the year I have had Vonage. |

1) Telemarketers can call Vonage numbers following the same rules as for calling any other number. 2) In theory a Vonage->Vonage call could not be bound by the rules of the Do Not Call list. Especially of the originator of the call was using a SoftPhone and contacting a SIP address. 3) Point 2 is moot (ever see the Jesse Jackson Saturday Night Live sketch?) because Vonage does not provide service to telemarketers (per the terms of service) and they do not appear to have a peering agreements in place with other Voip services. (FWD peering agreement was terminated.) My telemarketing calls are about the same as before I ported my number, very low due to the Do Not Call list. The number of allowed unsolicited calls is higher due to the recent primary. |

You can most definitely receive telemarketing calls on a Vonage line. The telemarketing companys can not distinguish between a phone number that has Voip or is using POTS.
If you are receiving telemarketing phone calls, then please go to https://www.donotcall.gov to register your number on the National Do Not Call List.
Also Vonage prohibits use of their service for telemarketing purposes. |
