A recent problem has cropped up with my call forwarding and SimulRing feature. I have a primary US Vonage phone number plus a UK Virtual number that rings on my regular Vonage line.

Previously if someone called my Virtual number it would ring on my main Vonage number and ALSO follow the same forwarding rules. It no longer does this. My main number still follows any forwarding rules I set up but my Virtual number will only ring on my main Vonage line and now ignores any forwarding rules.

Anyone else having a similar problem with virtual numbers not forwarding correctly?

Any tips to resolve this? I tired deleting all forwarding and then re-entering it but it does not help.

Can you be a bit more specific about what the main lines does for forwarding and what happens with the virtual number? And what you expect for either/both?

My main Vonage line is set to Forward/SimulRing on both the regular Vonage phone and to another landline for 30 seconds.

This works fine on the main line and previously my Virtual number followed all Forwarding and SimulRing rules since the Virtual number rings on the main Vonage line.

What happens now is that the main Vonage line works properly and rings both the Vonage phone and the landline at the same time. However the Virtual number will only ever ring on the Vonage line even when the Vonage line is set to forward. The Virtual number in effect ignores any forwarding instructions on the main Vonage line and will NEVER forward. My expectation is that the Virtual number would follow the same behavior as the main Vonage number.

This was working properly in the past but stopped working about a week ago and I did not change a thing in my settings.

You mentioned that you had already deleted all forwarding on the main Vonage line. I would try doing that again, and then completing calls using both the main line and the virtual number. Then, reinstitute the forwarding on the main line.

If that doesn't solve the problem, power-cycle the router and repeat.

If THAT doesn't work, call the good people at Vonage. I have had fastest customer service results by calling during off hours (between midnight and 0700).

Thanks for tips. I tried this but it still did not fix the problem. Interestingly though I discovered that my Virtual number is no longer impacted by the failsafe network availability number either. When my Vonage adaptor is turned off my main Vonage number goes to the emergency number as I would expect but my Virtual number just goes to Voicemail.

Does anyone else have a virtual number that you can test to see if yours behaves the same way? Just try turning your adaptor off and calling your Virtual number? Does it forward to the Network Availabilty number you defined or just go to voicemail?

I have called customer care and they did some basic trouble shooting but they are not sure what the issue is. This is very frustrating. My virtual number can no longer be forwarded in any way shape or fashion even in the event of a broadband or power outage.

I found this on teh Features>Manage Virtual Numbers>View page:
Quote:
Note:
When a call comes in to a Virtual Number with a Ring List of only one number, the Virtual Number will use the feature settings of the number in the Ring List.
When a call comes in to a Virtual Number with a Ring List of two or more numbers, the Virtual Number will ignore all of the feature settings of the numbers in the Ring List. (For example, Call Forwarding will not forward the call.)
If the Voicemail Option is activated on this page, the Virtual Number will always ignore all of the feature settings of the numbers in the Ring List.
When any number in the Ring List is dialed directly, the feature settings of that number will function normally.

I was thinking about the fact that you can set a Virtual Number to go to voice mail sooner then the main line, and maybe yours was somehow set to go to VM before your main line does.. then I saw that note.. do you by some chance have a second number in your ring list?

I only have one number set in my ring list and the voicemail option for the virtual number is unchecked as this was the first thing Vonage support asked me to do.

Prior to the current issue though I always had my Virtual numbers VM option checked just in case the forwarding did not work. Now it will not forward under any circumstances including an internet failure but even though the VM option is unchecked when there is a failure of my Vonage device (uplugged for instance) the VM does pickup instead of folllowing the Network Availabilty instructions.

There is just no way to make my Virtual number forward any longer. Can anyone else with a Virtual number test this to see if thier virtual number still forwards?

I just tried mine. I have a toll free number. Simul ring worked as advertised. Rang my Vonage line, rang my cell phone at the same time then proceeded to VM when I didn't answer in 30 seconds.

I wonder if having your virtual number in jolly old England has anything to do with it??

Thanks for trying. I wonder if anyone else with UK virtual number can see if they are having the same issue? This is a real frustrating one.

DWC1,

There is definately something wrong. I have a UK virtual number which is also using simu ring and all calls are forwarded to both my Vonage line and both cell phones when called.
