Post subject: when i use the phone, my internet dies
This is driving me nuts. Please, for the love of god. Someone help me. I have lost 3 nights of sleep over this. Vonage's technical support is completely hopeless.
I have the following setup
Cable modem --> Netgear wireless router --> Linksys RT31P2.
everything works fine. My wireless internet (through netgear) works and my phone works. But as soon as I pick up my phone, my internet dies.
I have tried everything. I have tried switching to the following
cable modem --> RT31P2 --> netgear router
I have tried putting the RT31P2 to 192.168.0.5 and disabling DHCP.
whatever you can think of, I have tried.
I ping google.com and as soon as i pick up the phone, the ping dies.
Comeon, someone else out there must have this setup.
Since RT31P2 does NOT have wireless capability, I am forced to use my netgear router for this. I tried having both routers on DHCP, i tried switching RT31P2's DHCP off, nothing works. As soon as i pick up the damn phone, my internet dies. When i hang up the phone, my internet comes back on.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!!!
you can reply to me at
kurosh@peachymedia.com
thanks in advance

is it a cordless phone? If it is, if it's a 2.4GHz cordless phone, there's your problem. Your 802.11 B or G wireless router broadcasts on the same frequency. I have the same problem with my 2.4GHz phone here at home. When my wife picks up the cordless phone and makes a call, it drops my wireless connection on my laptops. I've tried moving my WAP and that seemed to help a little, but I haven't come up with anything else for a fix other than replacing my 2.4GHz cordless phones with 5.8GHz.

Well fine. I plugged in my computer into my netgear router (so that I am not using the wireless setting), once again, as soon as I pick up my phone, my internet dies.
this is a load issue I think. Do i need to have anything in particular setup on
Vonage
adapter??
comeon...someone out there must be using wireless internet and
Vonage
at the same time. pleaseee help

Actually, NO. this is not an issue. I have used this cordless phone with my wireless internet in the past (with a regular land phone line).
the cordless phone has never interfered with my regular wireless internet in the past.
It only kills my internet now that I am using
Vonage
.
I am very close to sending everything back to
Vonage
.
Does anyone know if I will be responsible for any of the charges if I cancel my account? i have had
Vonage
only for 4 days and nothing has every worked. Would i be responsible for any of the charges if I cancel them within a week? This damn thing has never worked. i have ended up paying twice the price of a regular land line in cell phone bills being kept on hold with their tech support.

a lot of people are, including me. the rt31p2 first in line is a better way to set it up, with the qos.
but anyway, does the phone work or no? I assume not but just want to be clear.
using the rt31p2 only (take the netgear totally out) and plugging your computer into it, does it work?

NO!!! You misunderstand me.
EVERYTHING WORKS!!! the phone works fine. My internet works fine.
they just do NOT work simultaneously.
As soon as i pick up the phone to make a call. the internet dies.
I have tried putting the RT31P2 in front of the netgear. It is pointless. The exact same thing occurs.
please tell me what this QOS is and how do i set it up? I have not done anything to the rt31p2 setup. could you kindly elaborate on this qos thing? maybe this is my problem.
thank you

calm down for one thing. I don't misunderstand you, I assumed the phone worked, but the fact is, if you internet truly died, your phone would not work. so I wanted to be sure I knew what you meant.
try it with the rt31p2 alone and see if it works. cable - rt31p2 - computer.
