We bought seven lines from Vonage. We had been using one successfully for about a month until the rest of our numbers where switched over.

When we signed up they sent me seven of these little Linksys boxes (which seemed sort of cheap) but anyway...

I have all seven with their "internet" port attached to a 3com 10/100 switch. The switch goes through a fire wall (IPcop) to dual T1s.

The services comes and goes. Sometime it works, sometimes we can't place calls, sometimes we can't receive calls, sometimes call are lost. Sometimes we reboot everything and nothing works at all.

We have tried different hubgs, we have tried daisy channing the routers we have tried all sorts of stuff. Nothing has worked. We call support, wait on hold, then get disconnected when THEIR side fails (we were using cell phones).

This can't last as we use these lines for business and it is important for people to be able to reach us.

So, should we give up and go back to Verizon or is there some magic number we can call to get this stuff working correctly?

We have already invested way way too much time in this.

Any one successfully running multiple lines for a business with Vonage? Any thing special we have to do?

Sam

With that many lines you might be served better by a Vonage approved PBX style device that handles multiple lines. There are people on this forum who use those types of devices. You can do a search, or post a question with a subject like "multiline adapter recommendations". The devices are listed on Vonage's site somewhere.

The problems you describe seem like they might be related more to the quality of your Internet connection.

As for the subject of this discussion, yes, unfortunately it is just you. Wink

scerruti is right.

Vonage for business works best through a "Vonage certified" CPE. With multiple lines, there are a few different recommendations I could make.

I have had a lot of success with the Epygi line of products. They work really well with Vonage. There are others as well.

I can't promise that I am the "Magic" number but, feel free to drop me a line.. and I'll try to help you. I can't help everyone that I talk to... but I give it a good shot!! Smile

I work for Four Loop Technologies and we make a small - med business IP PBX called Switchvox that might be a good solution to the issues that you're seeing. It has the capability of failing over to regular lines if you can't connect to Vonage.

The feature works like this:
You'd have your Vonage service as the first thing that Switchvox tries when you're making outgoing calls from your business. If the Vonage connection is down, it can fail over to regular phone lines (or a T1, or another Voip provider, or any combo of these). You can still use Vonage for your incoming calls, or you can have those routed over regular lines (since incoming calls don't cost anything, this is a great option for reliability reasons). This wouldn't solve any issues if you lost connectivity to Vonage's service in the middle of a call, but it would drastically reduce the problems that you're seeing.

Switchvox is very inexpensive and does lots of other great stuff too. I'd be happy to send you more info and get you an account on our demo server so you can see for yourself how easy it is to set up and if it might help you out with any reliability problems that you're experiencing.
