Houston's a pretty big place. You would think I could get an area code + exchange that would make it possible for my neighbors to make a local call to reach me?

What's the hold up? When will the numbers be available? Here's a couple exchanges to get you started:

936-321
832-372

Oregon is a pretty big place also. When I signed up a couple months ago I could get Beaverton or Portland but not Bend. Now there are no numbers listed for Oregon. They are going backward! I note that P8 offers Bend. I'll give Vonage a couple more months then I'll have to leave. There is no savings if I can't drop the local pole line. If you e-mail Vonage you get back a canned reply saying they are adding numbers constantly bu if you watch the available area codes on their Website they aern't. I wish Vonage was a little more truthful and forthright about what they are doing.

Area code choice 832 is the best. That would allow for calls from
281 713 832 936.

But it's not just about the area code. The local calling area so far doesn't include Spring or The Woodlands or many other places on this side of town.

You've got to have both the Area Code and the Exchange matched to your location.

Thanks though.

I agree, but the servicing telco may not agree. In the time before, you may have to get a virual number for those calling outside your area.

Being from Houston area as well, and knowing the woodlands as I do, it is on the cusp of Conroe's area code, as well as Spring area's office code. The best bet is to fall into the 832 area code. The only problem your neighbors may have is if they are closer to Conroe, and they do not have a metro line, then it will be long distance. Unfortunatly, there is not much you can do about the neighbors. If they have Metro Lines, then no problem. If they are on the lines that only allow the office codes, then again.. bad luck.

You have a bigger issue with the local Phone company. LCC who was also LCTX has always been a little more greedy with its phone system.

But, I also have a metro number from comming into my house and I can't dial my Vonage number from the next room without long distance charges.

It seems that the 832 exchanges Vonage has are all on the south side of town and will be long distance for everybody on the north side of town, metro or not.

What's more, Vonage doesn't have any Houston "Metro" exchanges, so even if I wanted to have a number centered in Houston I couldn't.

But, none of them are available to me.

I don't have a number that Vonage is able to port.

I think I give up.
