Oftentimes a problem takes a simple solution, but due to the cumbersome transfer of "Reply Posts" back and forth, often additional comments and suggestions are added which slows the process down even more.
Should a Chat Room be added to the forum for the use of those who desire to use it. If Points were not included in chat room conversations, it might cut down on its use. Just a thought. |

Aren't both of your poll options are essentially "No" !?!
I think ability to have private real-time conversations might be useful in some cases, but one advantage of the forums is the ability to go back through and find solutions other people have discovered or to cooperate in resolving an unusual problem. That might be lost without searchable chat transcripts. |

I agree with you. It was just a thought. I was considering alternative conversations that would not wind up on the XML feed at the bottom of the page. If you care to know what's coming in and out on those feeds, just ask. |

I have one on my forum and it's rarely used. Now aday's most people have some form of IM (aim, yahoo, icq, etc.) that they use for chats. If you needed to chat about an issue, I'd say take it to one of those chat programs. |

Chats, can be very good and helpful and can be a pain. Have one and went back to MSN Chat rooms over server costs. Need a dedicated server to run it or a VDS because of daemons running in the back ground. Java based and an excellent chat!
If you are considering this for the future I would suggest http://www.realchat.com/ Eugene is outstanding and a great help!
Security is monitored through out and banning for problems works great. Multiple rooms can be set up for anything that you could ever want but you will need active moderators as swear filters can only do so much and reviewing chat logs for problems is time consuming. |
