After connecting the ATA to your available house wiring, just connect your computers fax modem to one of the available phone jacks, or at least that's how I do it with Cable.

From what I understand, all you need to do is plug your computers modem into the phone jack on the back of your ATA, or if you want to make the ATA available throughout your house, you can connect it to your house wiring using by using a phone cord from your ATA to an empty jack in your house.
In order to prevent the ATA from messing up big time, don't plug it into your house wiring until you are sure that your POTS is no longer connected to your house wiring. |

I having been trying to get Winfax to work w/ Vonage for some time (and Win2k built-in fax before that), but the end result is that unfortunately I can't rely on it. I have tried 4 different modems (one PCTel, two Lucents, and one from my laptop computer), I have current WinFax, and I have now tried on both Earthlink DSL and Comcast cable modem. And I've tried a zillion different settings (and of course set up max speed to be 9600 baud, etc. etc.). I have, on rare occasion been able to get large !00-page faxes thru. However, more commonly, the faxes crap out after about 5-10 pages, and often after one or two pages. This is a real downer because the alternatives (normal telco, or J2 fax at steep 10 cents a page rate) are really expensive. As a last ditch effort, I am upgrading to an expensive router, but at this point I don't have high expectations. If anyone has really gotten PC-based fax modem to consistently (e.g., 75+% of time) transmit significant faxes (i.e., more than just a couple of pages), please explain in deal the green crystals necessary to make this work. |
