I definitely won't have much time for the phone, but it would be nice to have my home line in Florida with me so that I could check voicemails and keep in contact with friends who will be looking after my house and kitty. Smile Keeping in touch for free is nice, plus they can call me whenever they want for free too. It is worth packing. I'll take it and see if it works.

yeah, if we go down to SC I'll prolly just forward my calls to her moms or sisters or whoever we're staying with, cuz they're all welfare rednecks and dont' have highspeed.. LMFAO! but they DO have tree branches in their SHOVEL's cuz the handle broke.. I was like ****?!?!?! and let me tell you, in July when it's over 100ºF those trailer heat up in seconds, and then it's out to the lake or pool.. lol..

The Call Forwarding feature is great with Vonage because you don't pay extra for it, and it does not cost even when a call comes through.

You must be happy that you switched to Vonage in January.

I've been with Vonage for almost a year now, and am still very happy with them. I've seen some changes in the past year. Minor ones, but better than none. Things are slowly getting better.

Do you ever watch the Trailer Park Boys? I heard that show was banned in the US. The terrible thing is that show is filmed in my hometown - Halifax/Dartmouth. It's not really like that there, but many people think it is now that the show hit the airwaves.

I just got home yesterday from a trip to Orlando Florida. I also stayed in Sarasota, Florida. While in Sarasota, we had a hotel room that did have an Ethernet jack. I plugged my Vonage Motorola adapter into the jack, watched the lights blink, and then noticed the solid green light which meant it was working! I took a cheap cordless phone with me. I plugged it in, and yes it did work. I had my Ottawa phone line with me to place or receive calls while in Sarasota, Florida. It was quite cool. Cool

We went to Orlando for 3 days and stayed in a hotel that had high speed internet in each room, but it was wireless. So for those 3 days, we had no Vonage phone service. I am not certain that one could get the Vonage adapter to work well with a wireless connection, or what equipment you would need to get it to work.

Today I was window shopping. I went to the Future Shop, and also Best Buy. At Best Buy I found a device that was created for the use of games like the X-Box or Sony PS/2. It's purpose is to pick up the signal from a wi-fi high speed internet source, and convert that into an Ethernet feed for your gaming equipment. All I cared about was the fact that it took wi-fi and converted it to an Ethernet port.

I do not know how responsive this would be for phone calls. The hotel I stayed in provided me with a crystal clear phone connection using Vonage, but I was directly connected to their Ethernet port in the wall. Wi-fi might be a different story. The device I looked at was created by LinkSys, and was Wireless-G type. The front package boasted about its speed, and how responsive it was. Perhaps this would work well in a hotel room that provided wireless high speed. It sure beats hotel room fees for telephone calls, and gives one an easy way to keep in touch with family back home. I may consider buying one of these wi-fi game adapters to try out my phone while traveling. I plan on taking another trip in July or August. It would be a good experiment.

The adapter was worth about $100 Canadian.

Hey Welcome home.. glad you had a good trip.. Smile

you know, I have heard such good things about that Trailer Park Boys, so I decided to watch it one Sunday night, I got 5 mins into it when I was scrambling to find my remote, that show was terrible.. lol.. my one teacher in school (I'm in for my last level of my apprenticeship, YAY!! Smile ) said he met them boys n Edmonton once at the airport.. he said they're actually quite smart, nothing like their char's.. lol..

thats sweet you got it to work in the one hotel.. I think one of those wifi -> LAN adpators might work, not sure what kind of authorization you have to use to get logged on to the network, but def. worth a try Smile

yes, I am very happy I got Vonage, all we had for a year before that was my Bell Mob. Cell.. I have a good plan and free eve ad weekends at 6pm, but it didnt' cover LD to South Carolina, and esp didnt' have a SC number with it.. we would spend about $30 in phone cards to call them, but this is wayy better, cuz I can take my phone with me to work and school now, and my wife still has a phone at home.. too bad we can't use it to call immigration tho Sad or just about any other place with an 800 number.. one step at a time..

Vonage keeps saying that they are going to get the Vonage Canada 1-800 numbers working properly.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Sometimes the 1-800 number works, but you reach the USA company instead of the Canadian one. For example, a couple of months ago I was calling DHL to check the status of a delivery that I was receiving. The DHL office that I got was the USA office and they did not know the direct number to DHL Canada. Generally when you are in Canada and call their 1-800 number, you are switched to the Canadian office - not the US office.
