My parents using it in India. My parents use it so that I can call them on a local number (Atlanta, GA) and they can call me. It saves me a bundle in international calling. I cant believe it costs just 25 bucks. I used to have a monthly bill of over 150 bucks from ATT etc.
No major issues, but have been experiencing choppy/broken audio on their end. I can hear them perfectly. This has been happening since last 2 weeks or so. Let me go see on this forum if someone can help me.
Hello aj0408,
So atlast I found someone on this forum who is actually using
Vonage
from India. I have been trying to know someone who already has used it in Indiavsince last few weeks.
Can you tell me which ISP they are using, which adapter, what is the network that is set up by them (for eg., ISP modem>Linksys>Phone>PC). Did u send them the adapter?
There are lots of people who are looking for such answers. On behalf of all I would appreciate if you can post this information.
Thanks
Anu

I travel overseas often on business. I can say that I have used
Vonage
successfully in Singapore, Thailand, China, Panama, Colombia and Brazil. I have the Linksys RT31P2 device as pictured below.
Here are my biggest gripes:
1) Doesn't support 220v/240v. Seriously - how difficult is it to procure equipment that supports higher voltages? Almost every friggin electronics device I own supports it. I am not even asking for a plug converter, just be able to support to voltage! Most hotels have ample supply of plug converters, but much smaller supplies of voltage step-down converters from 240v to 110v.
2) Size. Again, I travel internationally, not across the street. I need things as small as possible. This not only makes getting from point A to point B possible, but it also allows me to secure the items better since I can keep them in my carry on instead of with my bags that I've checked-in which get thrown around, and possibly worse, lost.
3) I haven't come across this yet,. but what do I do when I arrive at a ultra-modern hotel, or older hotel that never bothered to wire their rooms, and they tell me they have no wired connections, just wifi? With wifi becoming increasingly ubiquitious (just think, it's
almost
impossible find a new laptop for sale without wifi built-in), hotels that decided to wait out the high-cost of wiring every room will find implmenting wireless to be a cheaper, more cost effective solution.
Other than that, I love the concept and appreciate the quality. It has saved me tons of cash--I remember one three week trip to the Far East w/o
Vonage
where I spent about 30-60 minutes per day calling back to the US with my AT&T Callling card where I racked up close to $900 in toll charges. Those days are (hopefully) long gone.
Still, let's not forget that most hotels overseas charge $10-$25 per 24 hours of broadband service. This is a cost that I have not factored in, because fortunately for me, my employer picks up the cost of broadband.
If you do have any solutions to my dilemmas, I'd be more than happy to hear it!

Post subject: Wi-Fi Phone
Hi there,
I'll be studying abroad in Austria next year and I should have broadband in my apartment. My family in the US uses a
Vonage
account. I was planning on just starting a new account and using that in Austria (with a
Voip
box connected to my broadband there), but would it work to just get one of the Wi-Fi phones when it comes out and just setup a wireless connection in my room (using a cheap router) and use one of the
Vonage
wi-fi phones off of that using my parents account?
Any thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks,
Allen

My family has
Vonage
with US Accounts in the UK, not the UK service and it's working great. I have personally used it in UK, DE and CZ and it worked great! Sure beats the rediculous phone charges and saves on my UK and US mobile phone bills. Have had no issues with packet loss at all.

I have used
Vonage
from Kuwait with great success.. It was a huge savings of money, 24.99 a month is better than 1.20 a minute from T-mobile..
