Even though the Home Office of Comcast is just a few miles away and in the same county, we're one of the last to get the upgrade. I ran the speed test several times to make sure that I wasn't having a joke played on me. 4.64Mbps download/476kbps upload. I can't complain about that.

What does your Voip speed test look like now?

You know, the Voip Speed Test doesn't seem to produce results that are even close to reality. I have no idea what causes it, but my proven 4Mbps download is read as 1.2Mbps by the Speed Test. I must decide to go elsewhere where I trust the results. Out of respect, I just gave it another shot. 2Mbps, a laughable Qos, etc. I just don't think it works for me.

I have the same problem, that's one of the reasons I asked.

I also have Comcast with the upgrade and have fairly poor Voip Speed Test results. I think in my case it may be due to the state of my computer.

What I find interesting is, almost every person who has posted "Woo Hoo" I got the Comcast upgrade has also post within a day or so "Boo Hoo" my Vonage does not work. They also complain of the results on our speed test.

Just an observation. But a fact.

My Vonage didn't stop working when I got the upgrade, I believe a lot of those who had problems were the ones with the older cable modems.

As far as the Voip speed test goes, it consistently gives me the same results:

Download 1,983,120 bps
Upload 349,464 bps
QOS 94%
RTT 68 ms
MaxPause 70 ms

Which are significantly different from the results I get for most broadband speed tests:

2005-04-07 15:36:00 Speed test @ ec 3016/249 kbps
2005-02-23 15:01:48 Speed test @ ec 3415/339 kbps
2005-02-07 14:07:54 Speed test @ ec 2916/227 kbps

In addition my QOS bounces around a lot, this is not something that has been corroborated by pingplotter scans nor is evident in my voice quality. I suspect that it is also something that is being affected by the location of the speed test relative to my location.

It is possible given the consistant 2 Mbps number (particularly if other Comcast customers, and especially legacy ATTBI ones) there is a per IP upload bandwidth cap in place at some peering point.

Aw! Wait a minute Dan, no one is complaining here. I was asked a question, I answered, was seconded. It's just a plain fact, Dan. The Voip Speed Test does not work for everyone. Here's a test result from 30 seconds ago:

Download 1,753,000
Upload 373,632
Qos 14%
RTT 74ms
Maxpause 141ms

This doesn't make any sense to me, but I am worried about that Qos. The question is, can I trust this test? Some of the data is clearly wrong. Does that mean all of the data is wrong?

Cable works differently. You can't ping your own server for instance. There are other differences as well. This is why we cable owners prefer doing our testing elsewhere. Nothing personal about it.

Heres from DSL reports while I'm running 100 byte packets back and forth to London with 21 hops and tests to each hop.

3.8Mbps download and 353kbps upload. Now, that makes sense.

I ran the PingPlotter on Comcast for 24 hours. Latency remained below 10ms and there wasn't a single packet loss shown. It remained rock solid. Comcast seems alright to me.
