Hi everyone. Here's the scoop and question!
I faxed my transfer request on 3/24, received an e mail confirmation and today my AT&T tel # showed up on my Vonage phone. I have 2 help questions.

My old phone is still hooked up with the same phone number as my Voip phone so I have two services (At&t and Vonage with the same number. (if I call the number, my Voip phone does not ring, but my AT&T line does....if I disconnect it the At&T the Vonage phone still does not register the ring)

Yet: if I call out on my Voip the called id shows that it is the new number)

My question is: 1) Will my Voip telephone ring (instead of my At&T phone as soon as I cancel AT&T and my land line?)
I want to cancel At&T today but I don't want to lose my number if the Vonage number won't ring and pick up.
2) Can I go ahead an cancel my land line AT&T phone.

There must be a logical explanation. I'm just going though "I don't want to make a mistake I can't reverse" syndrome.

Hope one of you can clarify and simplify this for me.

I love my Vonage and I understood that I would have 2 systems until the authorization went through.

Thanks,
Sandy

Do not cancel anything at this point. Wait until the LNP is complete, which it is not.

sandy,

as conner said, do not cancel anything at the moment. What you are experiencing is normal. Reason why your number shows up when you dial from Vonage is only because Vonage is curtious enough to change the caller id so people you call see your real number instead of the temporary number they give you...But this by no means indicates that your transfer is complete. Your transfer hasnt even started yet. Twiddle your thumbs until Vonage emails you, or your status changes on your account at vonage.com....

be patient, in can take min of 20 BUSINESS DAYS, or maximum of 8+months, as known on these forums..meanwhile you are not suppose to call your current provider and cancel. If you do, you'll lose your number. Vonage will take care of the disconnect.

Don't cancel the OLD one yet!!!

Despite some indications, (like Outgoing Vonage calls' Caller-ID "showing" the "ported" number), The PORTing process has hardly begun!!

IF you Cancel your "OLD" line NOW you could be out of luck. It is likely that the OLD provider has not even started the "provisioning" yet.

The "Port" will have progressed, {but may not be complete}, AFTER calls (to the "Ported" number) ring IN to the Vonage line/ATA.

In all likelihood, you should never cancel the old line; the "port"ing process should take care of that (WHEN it is adequately completed). Vonage is telling the truth when they say it will take a MINIMUM of twenty days!! Let it complete! To do otherwise is VERY risky.
