Topic says it all.

I plan on signing up for Vonage through the link provided here. I need to know what else I will need. I have no idea what is included in the package that Vonage sends to you.

I planned on signing up and then purchasing the Linksys Phone Adapter through bestbuy. I allready have a wireless router.

Is this all i need?

Vonage has yet to reply to my email.

Thanks,

ALan

You will not need to purchase a phone adapter, as Vonage will send you one.

do they basically offer it for "free" after rebates or anything like that?

What can i expect the initial cost to be when i sign up? they really dont say much on their website besides the price of the plan.

Best bet I think is to sign up and Vonage will send you a Linksys router ready to go out of the box. All you need to provide is a standard telephone and of course a Broadband connection.

(Caution: If you like talking to company tech reps either by phone or e-mail, find another Voip company! Communicating with Vonage Customer Service Reps will place an extreme test on your patience!)

The adapter is free. You pay shipping, activation and your first month. You receive your second month of service free.

You don't need to purchase through Best Buy. When you sign up at http://www.vonage.com Vonage will send you a free Linksys RT31P2. They will replace it if it ever fails. Vonage will want $27 for first month service plus $30 for registration plus $6 for UPS shipping of the free RT31P2:

http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&prid=652

If you choose to purchase, you get only 1 year warranty. At Vonage.com click on activation rather than sign up.

Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up. Will the $27 apply even if i am only going for the basic package? And finally, is there no choice but to get the router? I wont be using the "router" part of it, but if thats what they send, then oh well, guess ill use it somehow. I really like my netgear Wireless G Router, and so do my other computers that connect to it.

I will be signing up tomorrow i believe.

I am tired of going without caller ID on my home phone. After reading alot of number portability issues, i decided to make my line completely basic before I sign up.

they charge for the first month of service. most people assume it's the $27.24 unlimited option because that seems to be what everyone gets. yours will be $16 or whatever is comes out to. also, my shipping was $9.95, not sure where mbhn got $6 from unless it's gone down. they are also mainly using dhl now from what I hear.
you can buy the linksys pap2 at most major computer retail outlets or online. it's a simple, small device that requires a router to work (if you want anything besides it on your broadband connection).
Vonage only sends the rt31p2 (router one).
I have seen Vonage ads lately that say free activation through march 31st, not sure if you need a code or if it's automatic. if you buy a pap2 or anything else from a store, the activation and shipping (obviously) is waived.

The exact cost is on the Website. Mouse over a plan, on the popup to the right click on more and scroll down. You can see the total price including taxes.

Also when you sign up just before you give your credit card# it will detail exactly what it cost. I found no suprise when I signed up.

Actually if you browse their complete web site you will find FAQ's that answer about any question you might have.

I did spend alot of time on their FAQ's. Some are written well, and some arent. So i wanted some clairfication.

As for the pap2 device verse the one they send - how hard is it to get an existing router to work with the new router? This seems like overkill. I do have a Management and Information Sciences degree so i feel i could handle it.

It just seems like they should supply what you need.

If i buy the pap2 for free after rebates, should i just sell the router that Vonage send me, or will have the option of not receiveing it.

I assume this is where the difference between sign up and retail activation comes in.
