If you go to their website, it appears that X-Pro is now a discontinued product. http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=products&smenu=xpro
However, when you go to Vonage's softphone site to "manage your softphone" they are still offering up X-Pro as their softphone of choice. Xten is now touting the highly feature rich EyeBeam v1.1 which does IM, Voice, Video, etc. http://www.xten.com/index.php?menu=products&smenu=eyebeam
I don't need all of those whiz bang features and I'm not coughing up $60 for EyeBeam.
Is Vonage going to stick with X-Pro or switch to EyeBeam and does anyone have any suggestions on a good Softphone client. I particularly hate X-Pro just for the problem that it doesn't reconnect when I suspend my laptop and to it to home or work. If I want to use the softphone again, I have to close the app and start it up again.
I've seen the SJ Labs product but I have had a lot of trouble with their PocketPC version and I'm nervous about using the Windows.

I use the SJLabs product. I've found it very reliable. Use the Vonage profile for easy configuration. The profile includes a skin to make the interface look like this: http://home.comcast.net/~thuxton/vonagesjphone.jpg
I keep voicemail turned on, on my softphone account, and use a demo from http://www.bluedigits.com/products/vmrover/ for easy retrieval.

The SJLabs interface is HORRIBLE!!! There are no obvious working volume controls. I could not get it to work with my USB headset, and customer service requests to SJlabs were ignored.
Personally, the XPro software, though it has some downsides, is much better than the SJlabs offering.
I wish there was a third competitor |

Guys, the X-PRO softphone has not been discontinued, Xten just has stopped selling it. They still support it. They are looking for development partners to take over the X-PRO development so it can live on.
And why would you ever want to use SJ Labs, that software bites!
Personally, I love eyeBeam from xten - http://www.xten.com. Vonage works with that really well and I am VERY happy with the quality. Much better sound and I have Video working as well! It would be great if Vonage would offer eyeBeam in addition to X-PRO. |
