i recently lost my dialtone with my linksys.
i was getting pretty bad echo when calling sweden (testyourvoip.com gave me a score of 4.1 to helsinki), so i switched my qos to be automatic (i average 2mb download, 1mb upload on various test sites, so i thought qos could be higher than 256).
after switching, the router could no longer get an ip address from my provider. however, my old non-voip router has no problem. i can also plug my computer directly into the modem and it works.
i can plug the linksys into my old router and it works fine. of course, that's not a good solution if i take the router on vacation (not to mention it's added clutter to the desk).
my first thought was that the linksys mac address was blocked somehow, so i used the mac cloning to spoof as both my old router and as my computer. neither worked.
i did the 15 second reset on the linksys (all settings, even passwd were reset), but it didn't help. setting the qos back to 256 was the first thing i did. i also reset the modem (it's a wireless setup, uses microwave instead of a cable to isp).
i have been running for 2 months with no problems until now.
anyone have any suggestions?
thanks!

does that isp use dhcp? or something else? make sure the linksys is set for the correct connection type. |

i just re-confirmed that the RT31P2 is set up for dhcp (it says "Obtain an IP address automatically").
my isp is definitely dhcp.
thanks!

have you powered off the modem and the linksys, then brought the modem up and the linksys up? I think you probably did but it's hard to tell. if not, give that a try. what are your phone lights doing? and what do you get under Status at the web interface (for line1 and line2 if you have it) |

i tried powering down modem & router, then i brought up modem, waited 2 minutes, then brought up router.
i've done that about a dozen times, just to make sure it doesn't work.
the router lights look normal except for the phone light is out.
here is the status page:
Voice Version: 2.0.12(LI) Line1 Status Registration Status: Call1 Status: Call2 Status: Line2 Status Registration Status: Call1 Status: Call2 Status:
the router page looks like this:
Firmware Version: 1.26.01, Dec 1 2004 Current Time: Unknown MAC Address: <removed> Status Login Type: DHCP Internet IP Address: 0.0.0.0 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0 DNS 1: 0.0.0.0 DNS 2: 0.0.0.0 DNS 3: 0.0.0.0 MTU: 1500
thanks for any help! -brad |

unless for some reason you have to enter a host and/or domain name (right under "obtain ip automatically") I have no idea what the problem is. |

thanks for the suggestions, reebok. i figured that i'm pretty much out of luck (haven't found anyone else with a similar problem).
i'll try Vonage customer support again (last guy didn't speak or understand english, so 1/2 hour was spent trying to explain the problem before he hung up on me).
