Good afternoon. My phone number with Verizon has finally been transferred to Vonage. I notice that when I still pick up a phone connected to my Verizon line, I still get a dial tone. I plan on following the instructions on connecting Vonage so I can use it throughout my house.
My question is, do I need to do anything to have my Verizon account cancelled now, or has the transfer of my number effectively taken care of that? I don't want to continue to be billed by Verizon for service if I'm not using them. |

See if you can still call out. If not and you want to have all of your phones on Vonage, disconect the two lines from the telephone pole, usually in the grey box on the side of your building/house. Then plug the phone line from the Vonage box to any open phone jack. Make sure you are disconnected from the POTS line, they still have some power in them and will damage the Vonage box. Good Luck |

Thanks. Found all the information on how to set up the wiring in my house to use Vonage.
My main question is... Do I need to call Verizon and cancel my phone service now that my number has been switched to Vonage? I am still getting a dial tone through Verizon and called a local number and got a connection. Will I automatically be cancelled with them now that my number was transferred or do I need to call Verizon to cancel?
Thanks. |

I will be in the same situation as wyzard. How long did it take to transfer your number? Is the service working well? Can others call you on your original Verizon number? What happened to your virtual number? Is it still operational?
I would call Vonage technical support to confirm with them what to do before calling Verizon. |

I just had my number switched. It took a few hours after the transfer for my service to be shut off. I did not have to call them. As for how long the entire transfer took here is how it went:
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History: September 24, 2003 Awaiting Letter of Authorization September 29, 2003 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received September 29, 2003 Transfer Sent to Carrier November 17, 2003 Carrier Approved Transfer November 17, 2003 Completed LNP Transfer
They told me the reason why it took so long was they were having issues with my phone company. I was using AT&T. I requested compensation because it took so long and they gave me a month free service. Now I am very satisfied. |

Service is working great!! Here's how my transfer went:
October 14 - Vonage received letter of authorization October 29 - Letter of Authorization sent to carrier November 19 - Carrier approved transfer November 20 - Transfer completed
Am extremely pleased so far. Only thing I have noticed is that every once in a while there is an echo during the call (I can hear myself). It's happened to my wife a couple of times. Other than that, the service is great and a great price! |

If you already have the Vonage service and phone number, can you change your Vonage number to one of your pots numbers? If so is thre a charge for the transfer? |
