Stan... you also still haven't tried doing a wired test.
Even though you are using 802.11g standard for your wireless internet, that doesn't mean you are getting anywhere close to it's theoretical maximum speed.
Before banging your head over learning more about ping plotter, etc., plug your darn laptop directly into a wired port on the Netgear box and test again.
If everything comes up roses you can stop everything else and order Vonage today.
I had a similar problem (not alot of packet loss, but intermittent loss of internet connnectivity -- for 1 to 2 mins, two or three times an hour). It wasn't until I used ping plotter (in response to my wife's complaints of dropped calls) that I could see this. It never interfered with my web surfing, etc. I replaced my cable modem for free at a Cablevision walk in center, but what really fixed it was getting rid of my buggy Linksys BEFSR41. |
