Post subject: Suggestions For Speeding Phone Number Transfer
I've e-mailed
jeffrey.citron@vonage.com
,
numbertransfer@vonage.com
&
customercare@vonage.com
about my phone number transfer and have yet to receive anything more than the automated response (that I replied to). I still haven't received a response from a human being. I'm concerned about the transfer, but the lack of customer service is troubling as well. Any ideas on how to get a response, or better yet get my number transferred?
So far, I've been pretty happy with the technical portion of the service. Features like simultaneous ring, e-mail notifications of voice mail, and overall voice quality all exceeded my expectations. However, I never expected the phone number transfer to take this long, or customer service to be nonexistent.
If it helps, my old number is with SBC. I guess at this point, I would like to know what the hold up is, and why the transfer didn't take place in 20 days.
I guess it could be worse, some people here appear to have been waiting a lot longer than I have:

February 17, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
February 17, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier[/quote]

Your 20 days is not out of line. Here is my experience with my Verizon to
Vonage
transfer. It is a year old; things may be typically faster or slower now, but I didn't expect the transfer any faster than I experienced. Considering all of the horror stories about LNP here you should be grateful if it happens at all!
March 21, 2004 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 24, 2004 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 25, 2004 Transfer Sent to Carrier
April 29, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer
April 30, 2004 Completed LNP Transfer
If you can in the meantime, you could try to transfer all of your incoming calls at your real phone number to your
Vonage
temporary number.

I'm not sure if this is promising or not, but at least I got a response from the number transfer department. I'll post once it gets transfered. Who knows, we could have one success story here....
Does anyone know who "the carrier" is? Is this SBC/Ameritech?

At this time the carrier is working on your request. Unfortunately the carrier has been experiencing some difficulty in processing the orders submitted by us. The good news is that it is being expedited and will be scheduled to transfer shortly. I will contact you as soon as I obtain this information.
Sincerely,
LNP Department

Post subject: 3 months and still waiting
My transfer began Dec 17 2004 and I have yet to be successful in transferring my number (over 3 months after the fact).
I have also experienced the same poor service and run-around, and am about to give up hope and switch back to my previous carrier. The
Vonage
service is just too new. They have more on their plate than they can handle at the moment.

"The Carrier" is a 3rd party carrier that
Vonage
uses. Choice One, XO, etc.
Also still waiting for LNP since Feb.

When I saw an article saying that they plan on hiring 1000 additional employees, my first thought was "They need at least 1000 more employees!"

I wonder why
Vonage
isn't doing it themselves? There's are a lot of other people upset, writing the CEO, and in general causing
Vonage
more work. You would think it would just be easier for
Vonage
to handle the LNP themselves.

Interesting!!!
Here is my "transfer status" this morning--
March 3, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
March 4, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
March 4, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
On Monday March 28 (two days ago) I received a call from my daughter on the phone I have connected to the
Vonage
adapter. No she didn't dial the virtual line and no the number isn't forwarded to the virtual line. At the time I could dial out on the SBC line but all calls dialed to my number rang on the
Vonage
line. The next day the SBC line was dead.
Obviously, the number has been transferred but I never received a notification that it was about to happen or for that matter that it did happen.
A word of caution-- if phone calls are important to you and you are awaiting a number transfer, make sure you keep the
Vonage
phone within ear shot!
Does anyone know if I have to call SBC to cancel my service or is that automatic when the phone number moves?

Post subject: SBC and LNP
Good to hear that your LNP went through. I did not get any notice until the next day! My SBC line went dead at 12am the day after my LNP was processed. I have been getting calls and mail from SBC trying to get me to sign back up. Let me think......No, I like saving $40+ a month!
