Can I transfer my fax number ?

I cannot find the answer to this anywhere. I just signed up for a small business account, which comes with one voice line and a free fax line. I am transferring my current phone number to the voice line, but is it possible to transfer my current fax number to the fax line?

Yes. You need to add it to your LNP paperwork. Call CS.

I E-mailed Vonage and received the following reply. According to Vonage, I cannot transfer my current fax number. So who is correct?

"Dear Customer,
I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you. I also
apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced.
Unfortunately we cannot port a fax line but we can transfer that fax
line to a voice line."

Can you please post the email you sent to them?

This is the E-mail that i sent to Vonage:

"I recently signed up for the Vonage small business plan, which includes a free fax line. I am in the process of transferring my current phone number to my new Vonage voice line. Is it also possible for me to transfer my current fax number to my new Vonage fax line? How would I do this?"

You should call CS. This is the first time I am hearing this.

From what I have read, the hold time for calling CS isn't exactly "timely", that is why I sent the E-mail. Do you know how the fax number is usually transferred?

Just like any number. This is the first I am hearing that it can not be added to your account as your fax number.

Let me ask you, is your current fax line a second line on your current local phone account?

Yes, it is a separate second line with Verizon with it's own number. Actually, I just called CS (you can always get in quicker to the sales dept.) They told me that customers cannot transfer their current fax numbers to the Vonage fax line. They said I would have to use the fax number that Vonage provides for the fax line. I wish I had known that before I signed up.
