Sorry for the confusion, the install tech was for my ADT system. The Vonage system was added afterwards and installed by me. The ADT system has its own battery backup, the vt1000 is on a backup.

I have ADT and Vonage both are working just fine there is no longer a normal land line in my house. Now as for the comment about do I trust Vonage if someone breaks into my house well I would have to say yes just as much as I trust that the criminal is smart enough to see the phone box on the side of the house and cut the cable running to it. Boy what a surprise when he comes in the alarm goes off and the police arrive AFTER all the phones in the house ring on the line thet supposedly cut. SURPRISE, as for my cable going out I think I have lost it maybe 1 time in 1.5 years for more then like 60 seconds, oh and in that time I have also lost phone service here. All of my systems including the Cable Modem, Router and Vonage are on battery backup in case power goes out.

How do you have a cell phone back up? and How did you set up the ADT with your Vonage system. I have the computer on the second floor of our house(where our cable modem is connected to our computer). I am not familiar with telephone wiring.

Cell telephone works as the back up line. The alarm control box picks up the line and dials out. The problem is that the alarm control must be able to dial out without "listening" for a dial tone. Note: Not all alarm control boxes are able to interface with a cellular telephone set-up.

There is an actual cell phone built into master control unit. Cost like $300 I think at setup and $8 a month.

I haven't had any luck with Vonage and my ADT alarm system, I should not that the Vonage line doesn't work with my Tivo Series 2 (now using the better usb method) nor could I get a modem dial out to work, I just don't think; for what ever the reason the technology is working in my area. You have to admit, its pretty strange trying this out, but none the less I'm dissapointed in the fact that ADT doesn't work. I should add that of course the system dials out but the it never connects/trains/modem shake what-ever it does on the ADT end. Needless to say I don't have remote monitoring as the cell phone is only for backup, not primary and I refuse to have a land line service, I'm interested in the the hardware specs or the contact information for anyone who may be of some help.

I'm having the same problem -- I changed the wiring so that the Vonage box came in before the ADT system (as if it were a telco's CSU), and the system can do it's thing properly. It can seize the line, and it can dial the phone -- but it can't complete the handshake with ADTs systems. I even bought one of those filters, but it does not seem to help.

I called up ADT in hopes that they would have an idea of what was going on, but they didn't seem to understand what Vonage was, etc...

I might spring for a technician to come out and look... I've heard that they can change the system to send data at a lower compression rate, which makes the calls go through properly.

I'd love to find out if anyone else has tried that?

I'm in the same boat as you all; however, I don't have much failth in either Vonage or ADT to solve the problem... Vonage support says alarms are supposed to work fine, and ADT has no clue what Voip even is. If any of you do have an ADT technician come out, please post your experience here on this thead!

As an aside, ronkoch2, I'm wondering if your alarm system releases its line seizure? Mine seizes the line fine and seems to dial out, but even if I cancel and give it a minute, I don't get a dial tone back on my phones. I have to reset my ATA to get everything back to normal. (If I disconnect the alarm via the RJ31X, I get a dialtone, but I lose it when I reconnect, as the alarm appears to seize it again)...

Also, just as a point of reference, what alarm systems do folks on this thread have? Mine's a DSC PC1555. (I'm wondering if there's a correlation...)
