Comcast is advertising the speed upgrade on the radio here in Nashville. Half the people I work with have gotten it (we're all in IT R&D). It is definitely 6000/768, and you're not getting what you paid for.

I never said I paid for it. I said I called and that's what they told me.

Maybe the girl who only gets paid to read off a prewritten script and probably knows nothing about connection speeds (since she said megabytes, instead of megabits), accidently said the wrong number.

I'm moving in 2 weeks, so I'll call again then and find out.

LOL, ok I'm not sure why you posted speed tests then...I guess I couldn't follow what you were saying.

GlobalGreg told me I should be getting the upload speed, Comcast told me the upgrade gives, already....

He was right.

I was asking him if the test he showed was with the upgrade.

Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, ok...yeah, Comcast recently did an upgrade for all customers to 4000/384. The $10 extra gets you 6000/768.

ToddlerTN,

My parents are in Nashville too, Franklin to be precise. They are paying for the 6 meg upgrade. Even with the computer plugged directly into the Moto SB 5100 they can only get a max of 4 based on what the latest comcast tech said. Personally I've never been able to get more than 2.7....at least within the past 3 months.

Comcast blows it off saying the speed is up to 6 megs, not promised. But I think they are lying or just don't know jack. They've tested my cable lines and say they are perfect. Any ideas. They've got Vonage and an Apple Airport router, but even with them unplugged the problem persists.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If they get a MAX of 4 megabit, sounds like their modem doesn't have the 6 megabit config file. Call your customer support and reqeust to be transferred to tech support. Tell them that you want them to check what config file you have. You can also talk to them online, they can be knowledgeable sometimes too.

Yeah I agree with GlobalGreg. Comcast's answer to you is like Papa John's bringing you a small when you ordered a large, and then telling you "ordering a large just means it may be up to 14 inches, but we keep bringing you 10 inches for some reason...and we're not that interested in figuring out why that's happening, either."

A beautiful analogy -- and I can't find a single flaw in it!
