I tried what everyone is been trying, I configured my service to what Vonage recommended for programming E-911 in the dashboard. Anyway made a call, and on the first ring the call went straight to Harris County Sherriff Department. I asked the lady if she has my phone number and address, to both she said no, although the number is 24hrs manned. She then told me in case of emergency to call 911, I told her that was what I just did..........she was like I dont know what is happening. Here is my question, the E911 is not a good idea, first being that there are no transcripts of the conversations, in case of any situation, the operator will have to forward the call or whatever she has to do, in this situation if the message or situation is not properly relayed then what happens. Before you say get a cell phone, I have got cellphones, I am just wondering if there is anything else that can be done to further resolve this issue. |

Vonage does not offer E-911 only of forwarding your call to a PSAP. the number 911 is programmed to call you PSAP when dialed from your phone like a speed dial option.
Only a few areas actually have E-911 working with Vonage. |

Another issue in the Houston area., Remember using your cell phone as an alternative to 911 from your Vonage number, is about the same. The 911 operator receives your telephone number and the location of the cell site. If your cell phone is GPS enabled, and your provider supports GPS, the 911 operator "may" receive an alternative location based on about 300 feet (0n a good day). With this in mind, and I know someone has a better explanation, I wish to make sure others know that their communication information from a Vonage telephone a cell phone is the same. |

Ya, that's the best you're gonna get for now. If you insist on E-911 then you either have to go back to regular phone service or move to Rhode Island (where E-911 is available to Vonage users) |

Not sure who is the cable provider there, but I know Time-Warner, Comcast, maybe others are offering traditional 911 as part of their Voip services. |
