I referred a friend, but did not get credit. When I emailed
Vonage
to ask why, they said that he signed up through a retail promotion. My friend, however, says that he did not, but signed up by clicking on the link in the email and received a router from
Vonage
. I'm not going to war over a few dollars, but I am quite disappointed in
Vonage
over this. I've been so happy with their service until now, that it's a real letdown.

Not going to happen. I had a friend that I emailed a referal to, and when they called to get more information on their service, the rep told them if he signed up with them on the phone he would get free activation, and a free month, all he has to pay for is the shipping. Great deal for him, but now I dont get my free 2 months because it would have cost him 70 bucks. I can understand why they dont want to give us credit for in store purchases, but its pretty harsh to undercut us on our email referrals.
That's exactly what happened to me. A friend from work referred me, and I called to ask some questions before signing up. Even though I had begun the call by telling her I had been referred by a friend, the girl offered me the same deal your buddy got, and my friend was sitting right next to me in our computer lab at the time. I told the girl twice that "I'd feel like I was screwing over my friend" (exact words). She just pointed out again that it's a better deal for me and repeated that I should take it. I told her no and ended the call.
So obviously my friend heard half of the conversation and I filled him in on the other half. I'll cut to the end of the story, which is that he ended up calling
Vonage
and very calmly but forcefully told them he did not appreciate doing the job of referring business to them and then having their CSRs knowingly pitch his referrals a better deal that gives loyal customers the shaft. And
Vonage
ended up crediting him for two months' service, although they had to get a supervisor involved.
Then I called back and went through my "I've been referred by a friend, I have a question" scenario again and got offered the free month/free activation deal, and since my friend was getting his two free months anyway, I accepted it.
So maybe if you call them and complain, they'll make it right.

I personally feel that the shouldn't have so many different offers. It really confuses people.
If they want to offer different packages, it should be one type for online, one type for retail. This would solve lots of problems.
I also, do not agree with them pushing their own "no activation / setup fee and one month" over the phone. Not very good business to undermine your current customers.

Post subject: Was excited to refer friends....Now Im pissed
I was happily referring all my friends when I came across this thread. I will cease doing so right now until I get some credits for the first couple. That really is sneaky and underhanded of them to offer a referral a better deal. They best revise this tactic as it sounds alot like something Telus would do.... No thanks. Im happy with
Vonage
thus far but they should not be counting their chickens too early. If you treat customers like telus does you will likely suffer the same mutiny they are suffering....
DO THE RIGHT THING.... credit ppl for their referrals

Well after looking at the results of the poll 89% on the top end of things. I'm begining to think we would do better buying stock and comlaining at a board meeting. Anyone up for going in on a pool of stock?

Vonage
was doing that....lmao...who cares where they buy the hardware a referral is a referral damn it...
for me i ordered online cause i didn't care when i got it and also you have to wait for a mail in rebate rather than just getting an instant rebate when ordering online.
so yeah people can get their equipment faster, but wait a long time for a rebate...
ordered
Vonage
on late thursday night and got the router on tuesday...big whoop...plugged it in and all was working fine...(disconnected my phone service tuesday morning from box outside of my house) ...its been pretty good with a few minor glitches...nothing too major though.
