Hi all,
I did some forum searching and saw that a few weeks back, people were having trouble with remote ends not being able to hear them on incoming calls. Is this still an issue?

I usually don't have this problem at the beginning of a call, but as the conversation goes on, 15 minutes or so, it will just happen suddenly. I can hear them, they can't hear me. I think this is probably the same thing with the people that call support and when a tech eventually picks up the tech can't hear them.

How many people seem to be having this problem? Any recommendations on things to try, or could this be a network wide issue?

My cable connection is pretty rock solid other than occasional DNS issues.

ISP info:

Suscom
Pennsylvania
5meg down/ 256 up.
Ping times to external sites almost always under 80ms. No packetloss.

it's unlikely this has ever been a vonage-wide problem, and I doubt it's vonage's problem at all. I would bet it's an isp issue. how are you measuring packet loss? from a command prompt ping result? I would say it's an isp hiccup. if it happens every single time, I would look at things like dhcp lease times, pingplotter, and what cable modem do you have? many people have resolved all kinds of issues with new cable modems (particularly the motorola sb5100 if you're interested).
also, are you using the computer when this happens? how is your network set up and what Vonage device do you have?

I have this same problem - a call starts out just fine, but then 15 or more minutes into it, I can hear them but they say I'm cutting out/in. Evil or Very Mad

I'm with Comcast, a D-Link DI-624 router, cabled to a PAP2.

Same problem here. SB5100 with DI-624 and PAP2. After about 15 minutes, poof..there goes the connection, and then the remote party can longer hear me. Frustrating as heck.

ISP is Comcast, and the alleged "Gold Tier". Usually more like the "Tin Tier".

Hopefully someone out there has the answer to this problem.

Hey JS (and others),

I just got off a call that went fine (an hour long)... here's what I've done:

- I called Vonage to try getting the firmware upgraded - I've seen reference made to 2.0.13e on the forums, and mine is at 2.0.13b (dial **** and then 150# to hear what you have). The tech said b was all there was. Hmm.
- The tech then ran some packet loss test, said it was okay...
- I switched my Bandwidth Saver Settings (log in --> features --> Bandwidth Saver) from high to normal. This is because when I've done upload speed tests (check out testmy.net), they say it's slow. Here are my results:

Connection is:: 246 Kbps about 0.2 Mbps (tested with 97 kB)
Upload Speed is:: 30 kB/s

Bottom Line:: 4X faster than 56K 1MB upload in 34.13 sec
Diagnosis: May need help : running at only 72.35 % of your hosts average (comcast.net)

Now, the quality of sound on the call I just made sucked. We heard each other, but it was far from what I'd consider acceptable.
I'm going to try upping the BS setting to the middle, and see what happens.

I will probably also get a SB5100 - I know you are having trouble and you have one, but I'd rather not continue leasing one from Comcast (I've got the Toshiba PCX1100U), and eBay's got 'em for $40. I've seen posts where people have many problems disappear from upgrading their modems.

Anyhow, hope this helps, and I'll let you know how it goes -

If anyone has a clue about how to get one's upload speeds faster, I'd love to hear how that's done.

a lot of it has to do with how much bandwidth comcast is giving you. many people have 256kbps upload with comcast, in which case you're doing great. that comparison from the speed test isn't worth anything. comcast offers up to 768kbps, at least in some areas, so it's useless to compare.
there are tons of posts about issues with the pcx1100 on comcast, so replacing it should help somewhat, if not completely. here are a few of them:

My outgoing voice quality is still no good... I'm either super-quiet to the other person, or I drop out.

I'm working on getting the firmware upgrade as we speak (the tech said once I power cycle, I'll have it), but I'm open to any options anyone has...
(the SB5100 seems to be working well - my speeds are doing well when I check with testmy.net)

the boston test would probably be a better one to try, but you're having pretty significant packet loss.
