thanks, I did try Boston, and the results were just about the same or worse (I ran them a few times each, and they never went well...).

How do I take care of the packet loss?

you can run pingplotter.com for a while to see where it's happening, then tell comcast about it, but it's unlikely the loss is occuring in anything you can control. is roadrunner in sarasota? there's a few people here on that service who have good Vonage connections if that's an option.
and make sure everything is up to date too, (i.e. the DI-624 firmware). I don't think it will make a world of difference though.

thanks - I checked roadrunner, and they don't service Sarasota (they say Comcast is the one).

I checked my router's firmware, and it was updated today.

I got Vonage to upgrade the firmware, but it says 2.0.13d , not e - do I have to power cycle everything again to get it, or call them back?

I checked testmyvoip for Boston, and again, same kinds of results.

Oh, and I'm on an iMac G5, so I can't use pingplotter, unless there is a mac version I can't find.

So, it sounds like the only option is no option, huh? Bail on Vonage and back to verizon standard phones? That would suck. Sad

thanks again for your help, and if you have any other ideas, I'm open...[/img]

Problem solved!

In case anyone sees this, and has been having the same problem, I finally got it figured out, and now it works perfectly.

Here's the thing: watch the lights on your router. Mine would go off for a second or two, take 5-7 seconds to reset, and during that time my audio was off. (it took me a while to notice, because I use a cordless phone)

I took the D-Link back and got a Linksys WRT54G, hooked it up, and it has solid ever since. No problems with Vonage whatsoever.

So here's what I started with:
Comcast :: Toshiba pcx1100 :: D-Link DI-624 :: PAP2
and now,
Comcast :: Motorola SB5100 :: Linksys WRT54G :: PAP2

Solid as a rock.

Thanks to all who helped,
binkyjoe

Hello everyone,

I am having a similar issue. It began about a month ago. Had the normal setup for 8mths, few issues. modem-mta-router-puters. then everything went haywire. the mta couldn't hold a solid light for more than :30. tried the bandwidth saver, no difference, Then I couldn't log into the MTA using the 192.168.102.1. I moved the MTA (moto vt1005) behind the router (Linksys WRV54g) no difference. tried pingplotter, bandwidth was fine, almost no packet loss on the line. spent several hrs. with Vonage, then with comcast. we decided to change out the modem to the Moto sb5120, and I upped the bandwidth service ($10 extra/mth) Now with upped bandwidth (3m down, 480up) the MTA only holds a solid light for 5mins, behind the router. Tried running it in front of the router, and the router can not get internet (orange light on router "internet" light) After another 5 hrs screwing around, the Vonage tech put a note on my account to send out new MTA.

this problem is strange.
