LNP is here in Canada (but sadly, not in Burnaby, BC).

Hooray! Confused

I saw that when I went to activate 911 this morning..

but none of the numbers I tried in their 'tool' would work.. they all came back as "sorry, but you cannot transfer your number at this time" but they were all Landline based exchanges, I tried London and 416 T.O. I uess they're still working on it.. lol..

I tired the 'tool' to check line transferability as well - no go...

but..

when I went through the line transferability questions below and submitted it gave me a form saying that my line should be transferable...

I called Vonage about 15 minutes ago.. I'm still on hold...

Now it is availabe here in Burnaby (604-689-xxxx Vancouver)! Very Happy I just checked again.

I have sent a letter to the "LNP specialist" and customer care to find out if LNP includes keeping your directory listing as it does when switching between an ILEC and CLEC. I'll post the answer when I get one.

They must not have had their website setup correctly early this morning. I tried it around 9 AM and every number I entered said it was unavailable. Even in major Canadian cities! I thought that was very strange. Later this afternoon I tried it again, and every single number I checked was available.

The only problem is I would like to keep my Vonage number, but port another number over to Vonage as a virtual number - they will not allow this. You can only activate LNP as a primary number to your adapter. They are not allowing porting of numbers to virtual numbers.

Why not port your number over as the primary and then leave your current Vonage number as a virtual number which you can do.

That would not work for me because I have another line in my home through another Voip provider. The number is area code 902 - Nova Scotia, and this would have to be my Virtual Number because I need the 613 area code as my primary number. It would seem strange when I call people here in the Gatineau/Ottawa region to have Nova Scotia number popping up on their screen.

I know, I know. This is a strange situation that likely would not happen to anybody else. Smile I will just leave things as-is for the time being and keep both Voip providers. I like Vonage better, but what can one do?!? Rules are rules.

Ok, whatever floats your boat like they say. Are you certain that you can port another Voip number? I know my old Voip number is unportable.

I am not 100% certain, but feel I should be able to port my other Voip number since that number was originally an Aliant Tel number and was ported to Voip. Why could it not be ported to Vonage?

In 519 area code there only appears to be LNP in the exchages they have local numbers. Kitchener-Waterloo and London numbers seem to be the only ones showing OK. Cambridge for instance - where Regional polie HQ is located shows No Go.
