Hi-
I'm currently in the process of selling a brand new Motorola VT1005 Vonage branded Voice Terminal. I was emailed by a prospective buyer who stated that Vonage will not activate this type of modem. I've searched all through the forums and found nothing on this. I also called Vonage, and was disconnected after a 20 minute hold.
I'm hoping someone here can answer this for me. I bought this new a few months ago but can't use Vonage in my area code. I certainly wouldn't want to sell something that the buyer can't use. Just doesn't make any sense to me.
Thanks so much!

It is my understanding that if it has NEVER been registered or activated that it would be OK to sell it and the new owner should not have any problems with Vonage accepting it. Motorola adapters are no longer shipped by Vonage but there should be no problem if it is a 1st time registration. (motorola adapters are great in my opinion) |

I was thinking about selling my WRT54GP2 and purchasing a WRT54G and PAP2 instead a little while back. I emailed a tech at Vonage and here is what he told me:
| Quote: |
| They would only be able to use it for Vonage service. They wouldn't be able to unlock it. We could swap the device onto their account, they just have to call in and request this. |
So, I am not sure about this one. Other people have reported that Vonage will only activate a device if it has NEVER been activated. I have an email from a Vonage tech that states otherwise.

I recently purchased a Motorola VT1005V TA from an Ebay seller. When I called Vonage to activate it they said they didn't recognize the MAC ID in their database and refused to activate it. The CS person said they 'might' activate it even if it was used by another account if it was in their database, but since it wasn't one of 'their' MTAs they wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Call Vonage and have them look up the MAC and get a commitment on whether they will accept it or not. |

I would be interested in hearing what they have to say. |

that's the truth ladies and gents
vonage will reactivate a old device for a new account as long as its in the database - which means that it was originally registered to vonage
good idea to always call and check on the MAC address ... and if someone tells you yeah i'm sure its fine ... ask to speak to someone else ... they might not be able to tell you right away but they could get with the engineers if you give them the MAC/WAn address and let you know once the engineers respond back from checking the database |

That is very good to hear. I just hope it holds true. |
