PostPosted: Wed Mar 23, 2005 11:16 am    Post subject: Different Ring Tones on Same line? Reply with quote Back to top

Hi,

New Vonage user awaiting equipment to be delivered. Dashboard already looks impressive though - looking forward to being a Vonage user!

I tend to work from home quite a lot and would like to be able to hand out different numbers, i.e. one for work related calls and another for personal calls.

I know "2nd lines" are easily available but I'd like all 'phones in the house to be able to ring whenever called from *either* work or personal number - but with different ring tones so I know who is calling! i.e. one set of equipment, 2 telephone numbers, different ring tones for each number.

Is this possible? The alternative is, of course, just having an "office" phone plugged into Line 2 but I'd like to be able to answer all calls anywhere in the home.

Look forward to hearing any suggestions.

Vonage does not offer multiple tones as of yet..

some newer cordless phones, and maybe corded phones too, offer the ability to ring differently according to the CID info.. (like a cell phone) .. my phone does this. so you could set it up to use a certain ring tone for all your friends and fam that you know would call your 'home' line, and then use the default for business and of course unknown callers.. that will be a bit of a pain cuz you'd have to have all your phones with that option, and then have to make sure you add all the frequent callers to your phonebook, but at this time thats about all you can do w/o gettign a second line and a second phone for that line..

I use the Vonage supplied Simul Ring which rings all phones in the house and my cell phone. I then check the caller ID and decide wether to take the call or let Vonage Voicemail take it. Perhaps Vonage will come out with different rings soon but they seem to be rather slow in adding features to date.

I suggested something similar in the UK wish list thread:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2950.html

I currently have a virtual number with another provider that diverts to my Vonage line. When someone calls this virtual number a voice prompt indicates which line they have called and I can press # to accept the call or hangup and the call diverts back to the voicemail from this provider. I am also able to switch the line off so only calls come through between 9am and 6pm.

It would be great if Vonage could offer this service. It would be handy for people who work from home, have multiple businesses or businesses located in or marketed to different areas. Other options such as different ringtones and individual voicemail for each line would also be beneficial.

Hi DVS,

Thanks for your suggestion. It makes interesting reading.

I'm currently using a "Virtual Number" to divert calls to my Vonage number too. How did you come across the facility to "announce" which number was being called, and which company did you gain this feature through?

The facility to turn "off" the line out of office hours would also be useful.

We're probably straying a little off-topic now, so do feel free to Private Message me if necessary. Smile
