I have been using Vonage for a month and am experiencing poor quality sound at both ends. Lots of complaints from people we call. Not good advertizing for Vonage. Vonage is not meeting the WAF (wife acceptance factor) and is in danger of losing me as a customer. Sound to both sender and listener is distorted and often has echo at receiving end. I use SkypeOut for calls to Europe and the sound quality is perfect so it is not an internet/ISP problem. Is it the Linksys ATA provided by Vonage? If I can't get this problem solved soon it is back to Bell. Any suggestions?

I just called a Vonage tech about the same issue and here is the solution he gave me:
Open Internet Explorer
Type 192.168.15.1 (Lynksys RT31P2 setup page)
Click on "Application & gaming" tab
Click on "Qos" tab
DISABLE > Qos Upstream rate (at bottom of the page)
Save setting and Voila !!!
Hope this will help you! |

Thanks for the suggestion. I have done this and will see how it goes. Now all the options on the QoS page are disabled. Is that right?

No more problem with voice quality since all Qos are disabled! |

I have exactly the same issue - lots of flack at home for my purchase (and porting our numbers over!!) LOL.
I just disabled QOS tonight.
I'm wondering if this ever made a difference for you, Eric.

Hi,
I have the same issue and wanted to try out the step mentioned. But when I try to go into 192.168.15.1, it asks me for a UN/Password?? Where do I get this?
Thanks. |
