I signed up for Vonage and started the LNP process a few weeks ago. However, I'm moving at the end of the month and I'm concerned that the port won't be complete by then. It shouldn't be a problem to leave my phone line connected at my old address because no one else is scheduled to move in right away. However, there are two changes I would like to make:
Turn on call forwarding to my virtual number Turn off long distance (so no one can charge up my bill if they happen to plug a phone in)
I've read other posts where people have set up call forwarding and it didn't have an effect on the porting process. But what about the long distance? Would that screw up LNP?
Oh, and does anyone know what would happen if someone establishes new phone service at my old place before the port happens?
(Boy, I wish I had read this forum before I signed up - I wouldn't have bothered with LNP!) |

as far as canceling long distance while transfer is in process, I've done that myself. And it wasnt a problem. So I dont see why canceling long distance and transferring to virtual number would be a problem either.
As far as someone else signing up at your address, that might be an issue you can ask your phone company.
All I know is that, when you sent your LOA in, you had send a bill with your current address and name on it. So I dont know if it makes a difference with Vonage with your current address or not.
Best bet is to forward your calls, keep the most min package, and cross your fingures that no one moves in..... |

I thought I'd give an update for anyone else in the same boat. I was able to set up call forwarding and a toll restriction on my line, but it did take 5 days to complete so I was lucky I hadn't waited longer - I was over at the old house the last day of the lease, plugging in my phone and setting up the forwarding
Then I found out that someone else was moving in this month. While it wasn't 20 days yet I decided to email the LNP dept. and see if I even got a response. I got a response that they would follow up with my phone co. I logged into my online Qwest account today and saw that there was a pending disconnect order for 4/8 (Friday). I called Qwest just to verify and it's true, they will supposedly swtich over on 4/8. That would be 18 business days. Hard to say if my email had any effect. I'll let you all know if it actually goes through! |
