Docsis Specicifications for Downstream power level are -15 to 15Dbmv

Upstream Under 55Dbmv


At home I run 8Dbmv Down 47Dbmv Up

These usually have to be changed at the head end and are not usually adjusted on site or on the Pole. I had a problem a while back when Mediacom placed me on a new Subnet.

My stuff was waaaaaaay out of whack and when the techs came out I had my information prepared. They were like hey man were just installers we have no idea what you are talking about.

I had to escalate my problem to the head end router tech to get it resolved.

if 38 is your downstream signal to noise ratio then it is almost perfect. I've been told by a Wideopenwest tech and friend that works for comcast that 37 DBmv is what they target for. anything over 45 and you will have problems.

A perfect downstream power level is 0 DBmv with a +-15 window

Upstream power level varies with the lock frequency but if your other numbers are within spec then upstream should be as well

I've had Comcast for a couple of years. When they first installed my service, the signal to noise and signal strength kept fluctuating and periodically the modem would lose sync. These events were captured in the modem log and I recorded them every time there was a problem. I finally raised enough Cain to get them to send a line tech out. To make a long story short, after about 4 calls to the tech's cell phone every time I had an issue, he found a bad amplifier upstream in my neighborhood. That was replaced and I've had zero problems since.

Might be worth looking into. Keep the log of your settings and your modem log (which doesn't stay in the modem for long). If you ever get a knowledgeable tech, he can take that info and run with it.
