e-mail I recieved yesterday afternoon from customer service...
Quote:
...We have made some changes on your device and upgraded your system...

I have not had to reboot for a couple of days! Very Happy I don't know what exactly they did but it seems they have finally fixed the problem! So the only advise I can give to anyone with the problems discussed in this forum is to call and e-mail customer service, call them alot, be very persistant. Or they will brush you off and try to say it's a problem with your ISP!
Also, just want to say even though I got off to a rocky start with Vonage I am still going to recommend Vonage to my friends and family (just with a warning it may take a few weeks to get everything set up right!).

This reply addresses the "Cannot get the vt1005v config web page to come up". Previous message seemed to imply that getting the config page to work had to do with how the vt1005v was connected to the home network. In other words, was the vt1005v connected to the router or not? That has NOTHING to do with it. You can connect the vt1005v anyway you want. The key is that ONLY A COMPUTER DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE PC PORT ON THE BACK OF THE VT1005V CAN ACCESS THE CONFIG PAGE! Therefore, go ahead and connect the vt1005v to your router. You won't be able to see the config page of the vt1005v until you temporarily disconnect one of your PC's from the router and connect it to the back of the vt1005v. You can leave this PC like this if you want. The vt1005v is basically another router that does NAT just like your existing router. Therefore, this computer connected to the back of the vt1005v can go through the vt1005v and through the real router to get to the internet. It goes through 2 levels of NATing when doing this but works just fine.

For me, I am only going to connect a computer to the back of the vt1005v when I need to access the config page. Otherwise, the computer will be connected to the real router. Surprisingly enough, the user manual for the vt1005v does say this, but it isn't clear enough. I hope this helps.

By the way, does Vonage's tech support always take forever to speak to a tech? I have yet to wait long enough for someone to actually answer.

Blah.

My firmware is now the most recent version.

Last night, I lost my phone --however, my internet, which is routed thru the Motorola ATA was working fine. throughout. In fact, ping plotter didn't show any problems.

I called Vonage again and they opened a problem ticket. How long do I have where I can cancel without penalty? I want this to work badly, but I don't want to be the bagholder if I give them a chance and it still craps out daily.

I had the Cisco ATA and I switched to the motorola, big mistake. It worked last night when I hooked it up and guess what today when I got home from work it is dead. Incoming goes right to voicemail and outgoing get a fast busy. The Cisco was terrific I only wanted the motorola becasue it would be easier to use when I travel. When will they finally fix this problem?

Lost phone again today.

They now set me to a different proxy server and also made my ATA register every 100 seconds as opposed to 900 seconds.

Don't know what it will do, but I'll let you know. Maybe it will help. My broadband is rock solid Optimum Online, so I know it's not that.

I made it almost 2 days without needing to reboot the VT1005, after tech support told me they fixed the problem. Yesterday it was back to rebooting a couple times a day.
Now they want to send me to return the VT1005 and they'll send me the VT1000. From what others on this forum say, that will not fix the problem with dropped connection.
One thing I was amazed about is tech support answered my e-mail on thanksgiving day, only a few hours after I wrote to them!

My phone crapped out again today. 3rd problem ticket opened.

If this isn't fixed by Monday, MCI's Neighborhood Plan is sounding pretty good around now.

Well this morning I was having the usual problem with the Motorola. I called tech support and they updated my firmware. Guess what? I get home 8 hours later and I am back to square one. I just wish I never got rid of the Cisco, that worked great. Anyway they better fix this soon. I am on hold right now with Vonage to see what they will tell me now.

Mikefromnj, which motorola do you have? VT1000 or VT1005? And do you still use a router with the Motorola MTA?
