Sorry, forgot to put a username on my last few posts... I'd hate to jump the gun, but I'm thinking I'm good now...It's been around 18 hours or so and inbounds calls are still working. I wasn't doubting that their tech's fixed "something", i was just questioning they fixed whatever my (our?) problems were.
If you guys were wondering what they did...(my extrapolation from the info i got from them) The MTA "registers" with the Vonage server once every (however often they configure it to..) Sounds like typical is 3600 sec. I dont know if they had these new Motorola's staged to register with a different IP than the Cisco boxes, but the DNS on their side was causing the Motorola's to register twice (with 2 different servers) The end result was 2 confused servers who ceased to accept any further registration. Im not sure why it worked for a few registration periods than stopped.. (my average was around 3 hours, some folks saw longer, some less i guess) But 3600 seconds is only an hour, so i guess it made it thru the registraton process at least a few times...
Anyway...Regardless of the fix, the service is looking brighter. I even got out of one of the techs that they are in the process of hiring some more folks, so maybe our hold times will go down in the future.
I kinda felt it in my (and our) best interest to try to work with these guys as much as I could to help them get the problems resolved...the technology, support, etc.. is so new that without us voicing the problems and working with them, the service would have no hope. It helps that most of us are pretty network savvy anyway, so that helps pave the way for the rest of the un-techy world to get up and running without incident...
....keepin' my fingers crossed that it stays stable.

Smile It is 0430 hrs est, Motorola ATA is still up and running after 14 hours (last reboot). It seems they have fixed the problem. If it happens again I was told by tech to dial, 80#, hang up after 5 seconds. This should reboot the system and allow it to work as configured.
Configuration:ISP SI Time Warner Cable->Toshiba Cable Modem->Speed Stream 2624 Router->Motorola ATA port 4.
UP 360KB
DOWN 2100KB

Hmm, last night, right before I went to bed, I tried to call the Vonage phone and got dumped right into VM. After a reset, it was fine. Now, I'm not attributing this to the same problem everyone else is having because I was changing around my network conection to see if I could get the setup page for the VT1000(if connected to a router, you can't access it). After doing a bunch of stuff, I finally got to the page. I didn;t change anything, but I never reset the VT1000 after changing the connections, thus I think why it was having issues.

Anyway I rebooted it last night and before I left for work this morning I called and it rang, so things lasted thru the night. We'll see how it holds up tonight.

Rolling Eyes I received a call on my cell from Vonage Tech Support at 1005 hrs stating that I was given new firmware overnight to fix the problem. I then called my number and it went right to voice mail. I guess it did not fix it. I then called their tech support, the wait time has improved, and was told that the firmware push went thru at 0700 hrs. I was probably already offline. The last time it was working was at 0430 hrs. They said the problem was involving the Motorola ATA box hitting two servers. At 1515 hours I had the unit rebooted by dialing, 80#, it is now up and running. Hopefully it will stay working. I am getting near my two week return period and it has not worked properly yet.

sirich,
Can you get into the VT1000's setup page(thru your web browser) and check the firmware number? This will confirm if the firmware was realy updated and also let us know what we should be up to.

The service was working last night at 11PM, in the morning, 7AM, the usual incoming call fast busy signal problem re-appeared. I unplugged and plugged back in, problem went away. Then again at around 1PM, I tested and could not call my Motorola from work, fast busy. THis time I called support to let them know since they told me I should not reboot until I call them. The support person, Rob B., told me that my ticket and Motorola were being placed on a queue for an engineer to take a look at and sed me an eMail once fixed. At 7:30PM I was able to reboot my Motorola now I'll see how long the service will function for. I have not tried the #80 trick. Vonage support told me that it was not a hardware problem on my end but a scripting back end problem at Vonage. Somehow my MOtorola is not registering correctly with their servers, it is supposed to register every 1 hour I was told. We shall see. My trial period is getting smaller every day. ANYONE OUT THERE HAVE THEIR SERVICE WORKING WITH MOTOROLA VT1005V and a LINKSYS BEFSR41?

Confused Phone still working at 2000 hrs, five hours. Found out that according to Vonage this problem affected about 100 customers who signed up in the beginning of November, were given the VT1000 and wanted to keep their existing phone number. At the present time I am still trying to get the set up page info and if I have the latest firmware. If anyone has the IP address, for the set up, please post.

ethomatos, Vonage will extend trial period to 30 days if you threaten to cancel because of these problems. They also told me they would give me billing credit for all the down time.
sirich, I have the VT1005 and did not keep existing phone number, so the problem must be alot more widespread than they are admitting. Evil or Very Mad

Well Vonage has told me that they have fixed the problem. They stated that the next time your ATA checks in it will automatically download the new firmware which should stop the affected motorola ATAs from trying to hit 2 servers. Let us all hope that this fixes the problem. They also told me that the problem affected customers who signed up in early Novemeber who wanted to keep thier existing numbers. So far I have 4 hours without having to reset. Hopefully tommorrow morning it will still be working and Vonage will have fixed the problem.
